Words can't express how proud I am of you Hanne for coming out #intersex today in USA today, & Vogue next month! Today is one of those days that we as a community & movement will be able to remember positively when looking back at our long history of refusing to quit in our quest to live in a world where all children, especially intersex kids, are no longer stigmatized and grow up with the autonomy to make any, and all, decisions about their bodies. I first met Hanne here actually, on social media, when she slid into my DM's disclosing that we had very similar stories and letting me know that she would like to come to my film screening in NYC last May. We finally met in person after the screening, and after getting to know her more over the course of that trip--I became grateful that we were able to connect and even more grateful when she told me she planned on using her platform as a successful fashion model 💃🏼 to become an intersex advocate. I immediately sensed that her coming out could only have a positive impact on the lives of current and future intersex people. I can only wonder how things could have been different for me had my mother been standing in line at the grocery check-out after discovering the news that I was born intersex and "needed" surgeries, and stumbled upon Hanne's coming out story on magazines and newspapers. Models are usually equated in our society as the pinnacles of femininity, and for parents to understand that Hanne is intersex and against "corrective" genital surgeries, like those we've both unfortunately endured, will hopefully create positive ripple effects in our community--and world. Thank you sweet sweet Hanne (and your ever supportive partner @yawnjohn) for joining this movement. We will win. We are winning. Love chu 💕✊🏽💕 USA Today article: http://usat.ly/2k7h5Y2 #hannegabyodiele #hannegaby (at Egg Restaurant)
