Questions from another-heronadale-girl (sorry this took me forever to get around to!!):
Which book has changed you the most (if at all)?
Probably the Harry Potter series, just because it was the first time that I read something that just completely consumed my life while I was a part of that world. Also, it was my first fandom, and we all know what a slippery slope that is... :)
What character do you love that everyone else hates?
I really love the Darkling from Shadow and Bone. I don't necessarily ship him and Alina. But I kind of love how unapologetically evil he is. I enjoy that in a character every once in awhile.
What character do you relate to most?
I found myself strongly relating to Anna from Anna and the French Kiss when I read it.
What is the most re-read book that you own?
I have read Catching Fire a lot.
What do you love most about yourself?
I get really into telling stories. I like to elaborate and draw them out. Listening to my stories is like a full blown experience. I don't go half way. :)
What is your favorite movie and why?
I don't really have a specific favorite movie. But I never get sick of watching Pride & Prejudice. And I love to watch different adaptations of it. One time, I borrowed an old VHS tape from a friend where she had recorded a Mormon version of P&P. So I watched it and then I proceeded to watch Bride and Prejudice (the Bollywood version) and the entire BBC miniseries after that. I literary spent an entire Saturday watching different versions of the same story.
Which Disney movie do you think sends the best message? (if you can’t think of one then which one is your favorite?)
My favorite was always Beauty and the Beast since I related so much to Belle. But I have always thought that Mulan has a pretty great message with such a strong female hero.
Which celebrity would you most like to meet?
Jennifer Lawrence or Emma Stone. They are two of my favorites. Or maybe Matt Smith. That would make me ridiculously happy.
What was your first fandom?
Do you have a best friend? If so why are they your best friend?
Actually, probably my younger brother. We have always gotten along really well. I hang out with him all the time. Getting shuffled back and forth between our parents when we were younger, I guess we always had each other to rely on. So we have always been really close.
Which book/movie/tv show character would you want as your best friend?
Zuzana from Daughter of Smoke and Bone. Anna and Etienne from Anna and the French Kiss. Jessica Day from New Girl (or if I could just live in the apartment with all of them, that would be great.) Stiles from Teen Wolf.
Questions from iprefertoread:
What’s your least favorite character of all time?
Nothing came to mind at first, so I took a quick scan of my bookshelf to see if anyone jumped out at me. I decided on Dolores Umbridge. Because, my god, was she awful.
What’s a book that turned out to be surprisingly good?
I was surprised how much I liked Unearthly (and the rest of that series.) I had started reading it at one point and couldn’t get into it. But I made myself give it another try, and I ended up loving it.
What’ a book that turned out to be surprisingly bad?
I really didn’t like the House of Night books. I read them because in the post-Twilight landscape I had several people say good things to me about them. But I didn’t care for the writing at all. I felt like the authors were trying to hard to sound like hip teens, and actually failed miserably at it. I hate not finishing a series, so I read the first few, despite not loving them. But eventually I gave up the good fight. I couldn’t waste my time anymore. And they really just got more and more ridiculous.
What’s one book you’re dying to read but haven’t read yet?
Several books that aren’t out yet come to mind. There is a lot I am anticipating! But one that is already out that I have been meaning to get to is The Book Thief. I finally got it from the library recently, so I will be reading it very, very soon. :)
What are you reading currently?
I spent my day re-reading Catching Fire. Sometimes the desire to pick it up again overwhelms me. And with the trailer hitting yesterday, the compulsion struck me again. I love it every single time.
On a scale of 1 to 10, how perfect is Harry Potter to you?
A hard 12. I will never get over the brilliance of J.K. Rowling. The things she did with that series are mind blowing when you sit back and really look at them.
I wouldn’t say I prefer them. I enjoy reading classics, but I do wish that I read more of them. I am trying to make it more of a priority these days.
What’s your take on fifty shades of Grey?
I’ve read them. And I didn’t hate them, like many people seem to. But I am under no disillusion that they are well written books. The writing is absolutely horrific. But for what they are, they were entertaining enough.
Questions from hermionethelibrarian:
1. What was your favorite childhood series?
I loved the Goosebumps and Fear Street books when I was a kid. I read every single one of them. And then when I ran out of those I worked my way through the Animorphs series. Ya know, kids who could turn into animals. Did anyone else read those?
2. Do you prefer series books or stand-alones?
I don’t think I have a preference. I like both. Sometimes the idea of starting a series is exhausting since it seems like everything in YA is a series these days. So it is kind of nice to read stand-alones and know that when I finish the book that will be it. But when you love a book and its characters, sometimes you want to read more. So that is what I love about series.
3. If you could meet one author, who?
J.K. Rowling. She is so brilliant! Meeting her would be amazing.
4. If you had only one book to read for the rest of your life, which book would you choose?
That is a really difficult question! I don’t think there is any book that I could handle being the only thing I ever read for the rest of my life. I would miss other books too much. There are books I love and have read repeatedly. But the idea of only having one of them to read from now on makes me sad.
5. Who is your favorite fictional character?
Adrian Ivashkov. I love him. He’s so wonderfully complex. Or Luna Lovegood. I love how she is so unabashedly herself, no matter what.
What book is your go-to recommendation when people ask you what they should read?
Do you listen to music while you read? If you do, what is your favorite to listen to?
Be honest, any future children names you have picked out from books? What are they?
What fandom would you like to join at some point, but maybe haven’t gotten around to yet?
Any fandom you regret joining?
Are there any series that you started out a fan of, but lost interest in along the way?
What upcoming release are you most looking forward to?
Tell me about a book that you read when you want to be happy.
Any book that you loved but will never be able to read again?
What character do you wish you could sit down and have a conversation with?
And any of my other followers who are interested in doing on of these! If you decide to do it, send me a message and let me know so I can check out your answers. :)
