Happy Hours and Your 20's
I remember when I was in my starting position at CNET, and happy hours were so fun to go to, especially since friends my age were in similar entry-level jobs where our salaries demanded us to always find a good deal. Not that we make that much more now, but with age and other responsibilities, happy hours now have become an occasion and not a ritual.
Ironically, even though beers are $3 and appetizers half off, but it always seems to add up, and definitely used to cost more than the current free-99 cost I incur enjoying a nice drink at home with some snacks watching my latest torrent download. One could argue that I'm not having as much fun as I'm not out and about as much, but that kinda stuff doesn't appeal to me too much anymore unless it's for a reason like a close buddy getting promoted or saying goodbye, getting out of work early before a long weekend, our favorite teams playing a game, or a big sports event. But it makes the happy hours I do to seem even more fun.
HH Now (Reason x Scarcity) > HH Then (Reason x Scarcity)
I guess it's peaks and valleys of a more dynamic range centered around the constant plateau of enjoyment it used to be. I suppose I prefer that because I can fill the valleys with other post-work activities. Net-net, I guess I'm having more fun at 29 than I did at 24. Either that or my efforts to justify this through BS math is a big Nile River (denial) running down the middle of my life.
Though, I speak to early 20-somethings and think, damn it feels good to be a gangster.
