Keeping Him Happy
First of all, let's just say this up front - it's gotta go both ways. Don't be killing yourself to "please your man" if it's not a two way street. But if you are in a relationship that you want to stay in and grow in, here are some things that have worked for me, some things I do regularly, and some things I want to do but don't.
I am fortunate. After years of less than healthy, successful, happy relationships, I find myself with a man who loves me and wants the best for me. And when I speak of "love" here, I am using it as a VERB! That means he actively shows me by the things he does and says. He speaks to me in a loving way. He is respectful. He is kind. He pays attention to when I tell him something is important to me,
I tell him what's important to me. And I try not to make EVERYTHING important. By that, I mean that I let some things slide. Maybe your partner can't manage to rinse out the sink after he shaves. Or maybe he always leaves his socks on the floor. Whatever it is, ask yourself (before you start busting his shops about it!), is it a big deal? Is it something that you can live with? If it is a big deal, make sure you let him know, but in a calm, rational way.
One complaint that we continually hear about women is that we're "too emotional." Are we more emotional than men? Yes, generally, but this doesn't, or at least shouldn't give us license to act the B*TCH. If you have a complaint, let him know sincerely and lovingly. Something like, "Babysexyhoneylove, would it be possible for you to please replace the roll of toilet paper when you use the last of it?" might work. And when he actually does it, THANK HIM! You're not necessarily thanking him for putting the toilet paper on the roll; you're thanking him for his thoughtfulness. You're thanking him for listening to you, and then following through. Everyone likes to be acknowledged when they make an extra effort. It makes them... YES! Happy!
Happy Man, Happy Plan.
