I know a lot of people can’t read in the car, but I don’t mind it at all. It’s a 12 hour drive to my college in California, so I’m using the opportunity to get ahead on my seminar reading.
I just found out that Herodotus may have slightly exaggerated the size of Xerxes’ army and I’m absolutely distraught

Today has been really nice! It’s 72 degrees and physics is finally starting to get interesting. My drama club is doing an outdoor amphitheater performance next week, so I hope the weather stays nice.

re: waking up early
For years and years of my life, I kept telling myself, “I don’t like waking up early” when what I really meant was, “I don’t like waking up at all”. When my alarm went off at 7:00 I would try to snooze it until 7:30, but what I realized is that waking up at 7:30 isn’t any easier- it’s just unavoidable at that point, because I’m going to be late for school. It doesn’t matter if I wake up at 6, 7, or 9 a.m; I still feel groggy and gross. I don’t like waking up- period.
I can’t make myself like waking up, but I’ve found ways to make it easier. I get up earlier, not later. I’ll go to bed earlier, get up an hour or two earlier than normal, get ready in my normal gross groggy state, and then go to Denny’s and relax (or work, if I’m so inclined) and drink mediocre coffee until I need to head to school. Getting up early stinks, but it would stink anyway- this way, I can get an early start, watch the sunrise, and maybe enjoy a bowl of grits. It doesn’t make it easier to wake up, but it makes my morning nicer, and by the time I get to school, at least I’m awake and a little more ready to learn. Just some thoughts.
