My white history teacher (i know sigh) was talking about the 20s and I had the realization that the whole Jazz movement was just complete appropriation of the black culture in New York, they took the style but refused to respect them. If you see in every American era, a good amount of movements started from black culture (jazz era, disco, even now), white americans just took it and ignored the people who started it and just took advantage.. Would my point of view be considered accurate?

For the most part pretty much. Ignored where it started, why it started, or the origin of a genres influences. And later disrespect it. Yup
