JX - "Son of a Gun (Red Jerry/JX Mix) 1994 Euro House / Handbag House / Hardbag
Just seriously, one of the happiest and most carefree dance anthems of the mid-90s. US never got to experience this one, but the UK fully delighted in it. Catchy, fuzz-dubby lead synth melody that was made to reverberate against the club walls as the girls all danced in circles around their piled-up purses and shouted the song's equally catchy sampled lyrics. Really cannot beat this shit. The original version of this tune by JX had been decent, but this co-mix by him and Hooj Choons co-founder Red Jerry just brought it to new heights, enabling it to get to #2 on the UK Dance chart and #6 on the UK Singles chart. Both Eurodance and the usually awful and overly cheesy phenomenon of Euroreggae that was being led by groups like Ace of Base were surging at around this same time too, and this Brit-made bop kind of pulled from both those camps and ended up yielding an absolute banger.
