I love how Hamm doesn’t take himself too seriously and actually does comedy really well. I remember seeing him on 30 Rock and in this SNL skit with Rihanna and his facial expressions were hilarious and so dorky.

Filmfest München: Hard to Be a God

Drei Stunden lang durfte ich heute im russischen Schwarz-Weiß-Film “Hard to Be a God" einer ineinander torkelnden, herumrotzenden und riechenden, überhaupt ihre Nase ins Zentrum des Geschehens rückenden mittelalterlichen wilden Menge dabei zuschauen, wie sie sich bevorzugt Schlamm ins Gesicht schmiert und jede auffindbare Flüssigkeit verschüttet. Chaos so weit das Auge reicht. Apropos Auge. Spätestens als eine Figur Augäpfel zum Verkauf anbietet (“it reflects light!”), kommt einem Dziga Vertovs Konzept des Kino-Glaz / Kino-Auge in den Sinn, bei dem die Wirklichkeit der Welt gezeigt werden soll und das unter anderem die Weiterentwicklung des Menschen zum Ziel hatte. Ob das nun hier auf eine abwegige Weise Sinn macht, sei mal dahingestellt, durch die viel benutzten POV-Shots ist man jedenfalls mitten drin und muss den Film über all die Widerwärtigkeiten ertragen. Und ja, der Wunsch nach Weiterentwicklung dieser primitiven Gesellschaft wächst zunehmend. Je länger der Film geht, umso mehr steigert sich das Verlangen nach gepflegter Ordnung, Sauberkeit und respektvollem Benehmen.

Auf einen Soundtrack wird verzichtet, es gibt nur diegetische Musik direkt aus dieser Höllenwelt und sie bleibt vielleicht das einzig schöne Element in diesem Sumpf aus Gewalt und Wahnsinn. Film(-Untertitel)-Originalzitate: "Why is it so depressing?"
