HELMSHORE TEXTILE MILL:
•3rd step:
This video/images of the spinning mules (condenser cotton machines) shows the final step before the yarn was further dyed and sold. These huge machines were extremely louds and work quite quickly. Considering when workers have to repair broken threads; as the carriages are moving back and forth.
When all the 714 spindles are full or yarn, the 'Mule' is stopped while all the yarn is removed. The process is called 'doffing'.
The little packages of yarn are called 'cops' and they are the finished product of this condenser cotton spinning mill.
The hard waste is often found on the floors underneath the spinning mules- consisted from broken yarns and rejected during this final process. Especially looking at it's harder and twisted yarn appearance.
