Kali-yuga
We are given this human form of life not just to work hard like the swine or dog, but to attain the highest perfection of life. If we do not want that perfection, then we will have to work very hard, for we will be forced to by the laws of nature. In the closing days of Kali-yuga (this present age) men will have to work hard like asses for only a scrap of bread. This process has already begun, and every year the necessity for harder work for lesser wages will increase. Yet human beings are not meant to work hard like animals, and if a man fails to discharge his duties as a human being, he is forced to transmigrate to the lower species of life by the laws of nature.
The “Kali” in Kali Yuga means strife, discord, quarrel, or contention. Kali Yuga began at midnight 18 February 3102 BCE. It is believed that Earth is currently in Kali Yuga and lasts 432,000 years. Human civilization degenerates spiritually during the Kali Yuga, which is referred to as the Dark Age because in it people are as far away as possible from God.
Kali is the reigning lord of Kali Yuga. Kali is a negative manifestation working towards the cause of ‘the end’ or rather towards eventual rejuvenation of the Universe. It is said that towards the end of this yuga, Kalki (Kali’s nemesis) will return riding on a white horse to do battle with Kali and his dark forces. The world will suffer a fiery cataclysm that will destroy all evil, and a new age will begin.
