i lovelove what melon duo is up to. theyre the silliests!!!!!!!!! but i kinda hate how the fandom is like "OMG axo is replacing jens that means axo is evil and terrivble!!!!!!!!!!" like no obviously not these people are just too stupid to understand 🙄

but anywayyyyyys. melon duo is so CUTIE!!!!!!!!!! i lovelove how axo helps rab remember things<333 and the cornflowers and the blue and the melons they love sharing its so CUTES. my silies<3

i don’t think axo’s trying to replace jens, but i do think that’s what jens thinks is happening. she’s already lost her best friend practically and now he’s also hanging out with someone completely new? of course she’d feel that way. axo’s kinda just caught in the crossfire on this one.

summary - bun contemplates some things in the aftermath of the faction war.

word count - 481

warnings - angst, mentions of death, faction war spoilers

bun was laying in scribe’s arms, letting his eyes shut as claws gently scraped against his scalp.

because where else would he be now?

the war was over. there was no reason to continue, no reason to sit in his ivory tower and let the guilt eat him alive. so rather than letting himself become one with his crops, he’d indulge in scribe’s odd version of pity. a giddy, gleefully proud version of pity.

he didn’t mind when the claws sometimes ran over the same paths, over and over till they bled. he didn’t even flinch at it anymore. it was some form of punishment, at least to him, and scribe was the second best person to give it to him. scribe had told him this would happen after all.

if only he’d listened.

scribe had started tapping against his head at some point, bun was unsure how long it had gone on without him noticing. he made a small grunt into the sculk of scribe’s shoulder as acknowledgment. he’d rather not speak, or, god forbid, move.

“what’cha thinking about?” the hand swept through his hair and scratched behind his ear, almost making bun forget the question.

“nothing, just..” a sigh fell from bun’s now scarred lips, bitten and ripped until they were near constantly bleeding. he opened his mouth to continue when scribe’s other hand slid under the hem of his shirt and two fingers rested around his tail. the fur ball twitched in the grip as if trying to escape. he cocked a glance up at scribe’s face. “..what are you doing?”

scribe gently scratched around where the tail met bun’s skin. “nothing, continue.”

bun rolled his eyes, settling back in as his own stomach gnawed at him. “just.. i don’t know..” a huff blew from his nose. “i keep thinking about how i’m probably going to die alone of a heart attack in some shitty situation of my own making and no one will care..” he pressed his face further into scribe’s shoulder, as if he could hide from his fate in the arms of another.

nails scratched up into his tail fur and continued scritching behind his ear. his nerves almost eased at the feeling. “i’ll care.” scribe stated with an audible tilt of its head. “you’re one of my favorite humans to keep, not to mention the only one who actually lets me keep you.” the words rang obvious in bun’s ears. of course that’d be its perspective on the matter.

a purr grumbled up from his throat before he could realize it was coming. the ear and tail scratching was pretty nice after all..

“you keep me..” he mumbled the words back to himself, almost right on his tongue. he supposed that’s how it was now, even more than usual. after the war, he’d spent most of his time in the caves.

“you keep me.”
