Rockefeller University and the Rockefellers. They’re not a new band but a group of some of the most influential figures in scientific discovery in the medicinal field; all of whom graduated from or researched at Rockefeller University. Rockefeller University is renowned for having an astounding 24 Nobel laureates amongst its alumni.
The most recent addition to Rockefeller’s long list of Nobel laureates was Ralph M. Steinman who discovered dendritic cells and their role in immunology. Steinman, sadly, died three days prior to being awarded the Nobel in 2011. Surprisingly the Nobel Foundation, who has rules against post humous recognition, was unaware of Steinman’s death at the time and Claudia Steinman received the award from King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden on her husband’s behalf.
