Harmony is my sweetheart mom character. She grew up in a trailer court with her parents and three siblings, and gradually lost her hearing through a degenerative disorder in her eardrums. She wears a coclear to help with her hearing, but prefers to use ASL over speaking. She’s very drawn back and quiet, even before the hearing loss. She very commonly wears big, clinky, pearl jewelry to alert her son of where she is in their house.
She had Winston at fifteen after she was unfortunately taken advantage of by a man in the trailer court. Her family took good care of her and kept her on her feet, helping raise him until she was an adult. She now lives in her own tidy trailer with him down from her childhood home, and her parents visit frequently.
Harmony works as a freelance interior designer/housekeeper, taking the time planning and cleaning to admire small patterns of light and nature. When she’s not working her jobs, she likes to garden on her front porch, keeping the flowers bright for the neighbors to see.
She has no interest in finding a spouse, but every now and then she’ll get coffee with other single moms in the area.

Winston has a heart and eyes of gold. He’s a quiet, soft friend at heart, and is usually only friends with three or four people at once. He grew up having a very close connection with his mom, but also a tight relationship with both his grandparents. Growing up with a deaf parent naturally learned him to be quiet, and he was totally okay with that. It made connections seem more sincere, to him. The loud crowd has never been his go-to.
Growing up with a deaf parent, he also developed speech at a slower pace. He often likes to read challenging books to his mom, sitting close enough for her to hear naturally. This did get him teased by kids in the school system, but those who saw his heart of gold quickly befriended him.
Winstons’s passions are running, birds, and juice boxes. His first real friend introduced him to track and field, and Winston found out fast that the best way to release pent up energy was to go for a run. He’s placed second in several track conferences, slowing down just enough so someone else wins first. He’d rather not have all that attention. He loves birds and has his own pair of professional birdwatching binoculars. No bird he loves more than his pet call duck Peanut, though! He hatched her from the egg he found in his yard, and they’ve been inseparable ever since. His favorite flavor of juice box will always be fruit punch… it reminds him of an old friend he had— a friend that moved away right before high school started.
Winston has considered dating, but is too scared to ask any girls out.
