As today is #NationalPoetryDay, here is the sign from the iconic Poetry Bookshop which hung outside the shop at 38 Museum Street and now adorns the wall in the #MaggsBros shop. The design is by E. Knight Kauffer. The #PoetryBookshop had been opened in 1912 by #HaroldMonroe and originally resided in Devonshire Street (now Boswell Street) from 1912 to 1926, moving to Museum Street in 1926, until 1935. It sold (and also published) poetry by living poets. Several #poets, including #WilfredOwen, #WilsonGibson and #RobertFrost made it their home. Painted sign, oil on thick wood board. Wrought iron hanging eyes at head. 52 x 40cm to apex of sign. London. (at Maggs Bros.)
