“Harrison Bain deserves attention! He's not the greatest jumper but he has such an interesting personality and connection to the music and his I-spin is probably the best one I've seen in men's category. His costumes are always fabulous and such a refreshment in the field. I wish him all the success once he enters seniors.“
I’m really confused by Ted’s lack of commentary on the obvious stuff like Jessica’s and Harrison’s music and costume choices. First thing coming out of my mouth would’ve been that.
I’m sorry but as a Nathan fan you have absolutely no say in artistry, ESPECIALLY female one. Zhenya did great no matter what your boring American biased ass thinks.
Hi anon! I’m so glad that you took one look at my icon and assumed that I think Nathan Chen is the king of kings and can do no wrong when my opinion/reaction/analysis post literally mentioned nothing about Nathan.
(I can go on for hours about how much Nathan frustrates me but that’s another post)
I quote, “Yuzuru is a great technician that has a good sense of artistry, but in my opinion, he’s not as high up in that area compared to Jason Brown or Andrew Torgashev“
Figure skating is a sport that tries to balance athleticism and artistry. To clarify, when I talk about artistry, I’m talking about lines and expression/performance quality. TLDR I’m a dancer and this is what my eyes look for, SUE ME. I can’t comment much on skating skills because I’ve only ever skated in circles on a rink during winter holidays.
Yuzuru definitely is the man that comes to closest to being a true 50/50, but at the end of the day, he still leans towards the athleticism side by a smidge. Skaters who tend to skew the other way with less technically difficult elements tend to succeed in what I consider artistry. But these are all opinions. Art is subjective, as I mentioned earlier. You have your favorites, and I have mine.
Okay, fair, I did mention all American guys in the artistry component. This is kinda due to the fact that American guys haven’t been very technically competitive these past few years, with the exception of Nathan and Vincent. I raise you juniors Harrison Bain from New Zealand and Koshiro Shimada from Japan that I believe have really high potential as artists. Once again, these are my opinions.
I may have a slightly boring American biased ass, but you may have a nearly illiterate ass.
I never said anything purely negative about Zhenya’s performance. When I react to skates, I will never just say that they sucked without explaining more. I’ll always find objective points to pick at and speculate as to whether these things can change the next time I watch them. Hi, this is called constructive criticism. I never watch a program wanting someone to do badly.
If we’re gonna nitpick words, you’re right, I never explicitly said she did “great”. It’s the beginning of the season, nobody is expected to be at their peak yet, so for the most part I have very lukewarm reactions to everything before the Grand Prix Series. I think she did good. It obviously wasn’t her best, and that’s perfectly normal and okay to just do good on the first competition of the season. Or as Brian would say, it’s like a pancake.
A majority of my comments about Zhenya’s skate were about the choreography fitting with the music, which is 90% on David Wilson’s end. Choreography is a collaborative process, but choreographers do have a very strong influence on how the overall packaging and feel of a program is. I’m sure this program will grow on me as Evgenia refines it, but my initial reaction is still going to be lukewarm until proven otherwise.
I will support Team Cricket until the day I die (or Brian and Tracy retire), so I literally have no idea how you came to this ridiculous accusation.
So is Ted really not gonna mention that outfit copy and the same music being used or
