hi so i read your faq but i still have some questions?? im really sorry if there are actually on there and im just doing a dumb :/ but i wanted to ask you about your music writing process? like do you write lyrics first then figure out guitar stuff or the other way around? (also, do you have a capo) and when did you start writing stuff and singing? im just asking cause im trying to get more into guitar and singing and youre one of the best songwriters ive seen even with being self taught
I write both ways, sometimes I'll start off with a poem or a few lines I think would be great in a song, and I'll work the music around them. Other times I'll write a melody on guitar and then write words to fit. Really there's no right way, whatever feels the most natural and comfortable works.
I have a capo, and I use it with almost every song I write, they help a ton! Especially if you write something, then realize it's a little out of your range, instant pitch fix!
I've been singing my whole life, Both my parents are singers/musicians and my sister and I were taught to sing along with them and harmonize with them as soon as we could speak practically. We were in a family band for a while that actually preformed and stuff haha. As for writing, the first song I can remember writing when when I was 11 or so...
Thank you! Good luck with guitar and writing, Just remember to have fun and write about what inspires you (that's why I write fansongs! :P) keep in mind there's no right way to write a song and you'll have a blast. :)
