regarding all the discussions about harry’s intelligence, i thought i’d leave canonical inserts from the books to prove that harry is absolutely capable and everybody else thinks so too. (unless you’re umbridge)

let’s delve deeper into this insert because i think it’s extremely important if we’re going to judge harry’s intelligence and character by extension. firstly, mcgonagall notes that she doesn’t accept anything lower than EE. (exceeds expectations) and that right now harry was averaging an acceptable.

knowing that harry got EE on his actual owls shows that he did do that ‘good hard work’ PAIRED with everything going on his life while studying for everything else as his predicted grades were lower than the ones he actually got that even with a little bit extra effort he went a whole grade higher (an A, roughly) in the space of about 6 weeks.

now, imagine harry was normal. as in, a normal life. no Voldemort, no crazy teacher cutting his hand open every night, not worrying about his ex-convicted godfather….also not teaching a whole group of students OWL level dada at the age of fifteen.

with only exams to truly worry about.

everytime someone compares harry to someone else’s grades, I’m like did they have all that going on? or was it only exams to worry about 😂😂😂

mcgonagall also mentions even more exams after hogwarts when becoming an auror and considering you need very good exams grades to even get considered (as there hadn’t been someone in around 3 years to achieve becoming an auror) i’d say they’re pretty prestigious.

and considering harry canonically IS an auror and even became head of the department i think it’s safe to say he excelled at those too.

is that not harry’s character?

they’re comparing harry to snape here, and say what you want about snape but he’s definitely not stupid or incompetent. also, hermione genuinely took his words as something worthy because she knows that harry knows what he’s talking about.

there is PLENTLY more instances by the way, especially harry’s scarily good memory.

Harry Potter Intelligence Appreciation Post

Okay, so everyone likes to joke about reasons why Harry could never be a ravenclaw, but can we also talk about reasons why he could be? I mean, remember this is the kid who ~Happily read the books he had about the magical world to learn about this place he finally belonged to ~Stayed up doing his homework all night long so he could get it done without the Dursley's knowing ~Is always fascinated by magic. Always. Maybe not the why or the how of the spells, but just the existence of magic ~Is curious about people and their actions to the point that he obsesses about their motives Harry Potter is not a conventional Ravenclaw, not in the sense we usually think of them. But he is curious and fascinated by the subjects that interest him, and just because those subjects aren't always his classes doesn't mean he isn't intelligent. Is he oblivious? Yes, he's certainly had those moments. But still, Harry Potter is a boy fascinated by magic and people and every time I read about him doing his homework under his covers I just think we don't give him enough credit. Obviously he exhibits the traits of other houses before ravenclaw, but he is by no means an unintelligent person.

I totally agree. The fact that they could have edited Harry's "not that important" comment out is what keeps sticking. Harry's very familiar with that, he's been known to ask/comment/remind himself of whether something is live or not. He even says "we'll see if we can cut that part out" when the interviewer makes a joke that flops. He's very aware of all the processes & even more aware of what he says. They could have easily cut his line, but they didn't. It just spells out purposeful.

You make a fantastic point. He does tend to make comments like "maybe we can just cut that out" when there's a strange bit in an interview. He's so aware of what goes on around him and what he does and says. Harry knows how much scrutiny he's under. He is not an idiot! I wish people would give him more credit because that's what's insulting here.

After he said "Not that important" he could have done several things. He could have clarified: "I mean I do like girls but...." He could have said he was just joking. Or he could have even made a comment about cutting that bit out. Instead he dropped the bomb and continued his answer with gender neutral pronouns "I like someone..." He knew exactly what he was doing. There are so many things that could have been done to clarify that answer or get rid of it completely so that no one outside that room would ever even hear it. And yet, here we are. It was deliberate.

I have a question. Does Harry have this stuff all planned out months in advance? Like is there a section in his journal called "The No Chill List" where he plots out his reckless behavior by month and date? Does Louis scheme with him? Do the other boys throw in their two cents? Or does Harry just do it all spur of the moment? He's like an evil genius. I want to know what's going on in that head of his.

you know I'm usually very sceptical about all this H&L related stuff but the bandana thing? like how huge coincidence that could be? people started to talk about that bandana project and suddenly Harry's out htere wearing BLUE bandana like.. out of nowhere? don't even try to tell me that this is just coincidence. either he's trolling (but if Larry rumors bother him why doesn't he wear idk red bandana?) or he really wants us to know, this boy is so confusing, i love him.

Of all the bandanas that are out there, Harry is over here wearing a freaking BLUE ONE. Even if he started wearing the bandana at first just because he liked it, the point is that he’s still wearing it days later. And by now I’m sure he’s aware of what people are saying about it. So I guess he doesn’t mind our crazy theories that tore him and his best friend apart? Right. There are so many holes in that logic. You can only brush these things off as coincidences for so long :)
