Over the years, Gilnean families passed down many tales and nursery rhymes as retellings to their children. Many of these were lighthearted, but some of them were born out of myths meant to scare. Some of the tales revolved around the harvest witches and their rituals within the woods. Despite their help during the famine, they were still shrouded in mystery. In reality, many of these stories were meant to keep the children from wandering too far off the town roads and into the dangerous woods that surrounded the areas.

The following rhyme is from the now sunken town of Duskhaven that bordered the western side of Gilneas. There was a harvest witch who lived on the edge of the woods who was known as “Old Lada”. Rumor says that she would remain indoors most of the day, only emerging after sundown. She was known to let her long white hair down as she walked barefoot, blessing the local crops and gathering herbs for potions. The children would try to sneak quick peeks of her through their candlelit windows.

During playtime, the children could be heard laughing and singing the following rhyme as they skipped, jumped roped, or chased hoops down the town streets.

“Old Lada walks the woods at night. She blesses our fields by the pale moonlight. With bone, and blood, and feather of the raven, Keep us safe and well, o’ Ghost of Duskhaven.”

1. I Need Somebody - I just... as a musician, there’s so many things about this song that I can talk about but I’ll say this. It’s honestly such a MASTERPIECE of a song. The first time I heard it it felt like I had gone on a journey, and I can honestly say that there’s very few songs that make me feel that way. ALSO: the drum part in this song is just killer, and Dowoon’s drum fill towards the end? INCREDIBLE. I said it on my Twitter but it’s my favorite drum part ever written and that’s saying a lot considering all the music I’ve listened to and been a part of playing over the years.

2. How Can I Say - This song just feels like coming home to me, I don’t really know how to describe it. I grew up on rock and roll songs similar to this one and it just makes me so happy, which is ironic because it’s a breakup song but sjsjdjskskhsjsjs (also because I think of MyDay President Seungmin singing it in front of Jay on ASC and that makes me happy too lol)

3. I Smile - You’ll hear me saying this a lot but I’m a sucker for a good chorus and this song DEFINITELY has one, not just that but there’s so many cool musical choices that they made throughout the song. I knew it was gonna be something special right from the beginning, but Dowoon’s interesting groove choice in the second part of the chorus GOT TO ME. Because a raggaeton groove in the middle of a chorus like the I Smile one? What??? But it fits surprisingly well and I’m HERE FOR IT. Plus the bridge for this song with the ‘oh’s’ and Wonpil’s synth? HELL YEAH.

4. Shoot Me - There’s so much about this song that I love, but the synth and guitar work on this one is something else. I love the melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic choices they made throughout the whole song (but to give an example, the chromatic descent on ‘Seurilleo hanpyeoniya’ is AMAZING. It’s just a little thing but man it does so much).

5. Somehow - Again I’m such a sucker for a good chorus, and Sungjin’s singing on ‘eojjeoda boni nan neol’ gets me EVERY TIME it’s so good.

I HAVE to do honorable mentions because I just love too many of their songs sjsjdjsk

1. All of the ones Dowoon sings in (he’s my bias so I’m biased (heh, ok sorry I’ll show myself out) but I LOVE his voice so much and it’s always a pleasant surprise hearing his voice in the songs)

2. I Like You - That chorus gets me singing it EVERY time... I mean how can someone not jam out to JOHA HABNIDAAAAAAAAAA (I think I got the spelling right but pleaseeee someone correct me if it’s not skshdjsks))

3. Rescue Me - Arguably the heaviest song they have in their repertoire and I just love it so much, plus Wonpil’s singing in this one was just incredible and I get chills every time

4. Better Better - THAT CHORUS, Day6 is known for their incredible vocalists on top of their fantastic playing, and I think that really shines in this song in the chorus (especially Brian Young K’s belting of ‘better better better baby’ I also get chills when I listen to that because it’s INCREDIBLE)

5. Congratulations - What can I say about this song that hasn’t already been said honestly... but the falsetto parts are beautiful, the backing vocals that fellow MyDays do an incredible job of singing live (SERIOUSLY, I tear up every time but I’m just that™️ person lmfao), just everything about this song is incredible)
