RADIO STATIC PHILLY’S RECOMMENDED RELEASE OF THE WEEK! Marietta “As It Were”
Feel-good indie, punk, emo, rock that flat out rules! Catchy as fuck, this album hooks you from the first riff till the last. Some of the guitar work borders on being math rock while the drumming is super intricate, bass lines provide the back bone and the vocals are soothing yet exciting at the same time. This band may have just released my favorite indie punk/emo record of 2015 local or national so far!
Recommended Track: “Destination Unknown (Reprise)” Follow Here: Facebook / Twitter / Tumblr / Webstore

Hashgrinder “Hashgrinder”
Thirteen fast paced, grindcore tracks that completely slay! Every song is technically amazing, eternally crushing and brutal as fuck! The growth between their new self titled effort and their demo released last May blew my expectations away! Their Self Titled Full Length is definitely required listening if you’re into grindcore / metal / doom!
Recommended Track: “The Castle of Fu–Man Chu” Follow Here: Facebook

Hivelords “Tapered Limbs of a Human Star”
Atmospheric, Black Metal that is more epic than you can imagine! We did an interview with these guys about their band and this album. Check it out here! While it’s crushingly heavy, every track breathes unlike any black metal I’ve ever heard. Four tracks take up this release, yet with almost a 40 min run time it has the absolute feel of a full length.

Joshua Alverez “Better Days”
Folk punk that plugs in and turns up. Great singer songwriter kind of stuff that incorporates heartfelt lyrics, awesome guitar leads, even some ukelele and violin on some tracks. All in all, if you like Folk Punk you’ll fucking love “Better Days” by Josh Alverez.
Recommended Track: “Why We Sing”

Magnificent Birds of Prey ” Kaleidoscope”
Fuzzy, Psych rock who’s peaks and valleys build the songs up in a really exciting way. The gravelly vocal style the singer uses has a profoundly powerful impact. Each and every song’s structure is written in a way that bucks the standard writing style and injects a prog like feeling without the nerd factor interfering. What you get is eleven killer classic, psych, prog tracks that completely rock!

Naked Pyramid “Salt”
Somewhat noise / Somewhat metal remix. Pretty interesting and should please noise heads and metal dudes alike. No use trying to explain it. This is a “Need to listen and decide for yourself” kind of experimental music.
Recommended Track: “Salt”

Planning For Burial “Part Time Punks Session”
Drone oriented, shoegaze that is great for focus. Sounds like the music over a scene in an indie artsy movie that pans over a desolate, post-apoctalytic waste land in slow motion. Hugely epic and thought provoking to say the least
Recommended Track: “Wearing Sadness And Regret Upon Our Faces” Follow Here: Facebook / Tumblr

Sad Actor “Untitled”
Grungy, alternative, punk rock that references an almost new wave kind of inspiration. Definitely a slick sound and one that isn’t replicated in the Philly scene. The vocal attack in these songs is sharp and quick. Probably one of the sickest EPs to come out this year.
Recommended Track: “Codeword” Follow Here: Facebook

Sad Boys “Moving On”
Indie, pop punk that is totally straight forward. Raspy vocals and awesome riffs encapsulate the majority of these tracks. The recording is almost too clean. I’d say if the drums and bass were turned up in the mix and there was more grit, i.e. guitar feedback and a few chaotic guitar parts it would have made this recording better. The songs are good and the vocals are definitely heart felt but it feels like it’s lacking something…
Recommended Track: “I’ll Tell You Through Broken Teeth”
