Beverly Hills + Flight to Copenhagen
May 4th, 2019
Los Angeles
We had a sleepy morning and didn’t end up checking out of the hotel until 1pm. After, we walked the streets of Beverly Hills in our full backpacker gear. It was an experience.
Beverly Hills is actually a lot nicer than I remember, we’ve never walked the streets but just drove through. Literally every place and establishment is kosher. We ended up heading to Hasiba for falafel and it was soo good. Maybe better than what I had in Israel. We tried their hummus with wild roasted mushrooms which was fantastic as well.
From there, we took an uber to LAX and had very interesting uber driver that use to do travel documentaries in Europe. Once we arrived to LAX, we hauled a$$ to our gate because it was last call at that point.
Norweigan Flight
After copious amount of alcohol and cognac ordered from the self-service kiosks, John and I watched the Great Gatsby together, and then tried falling asleep. For some random reason, I chose to get the kosher meal and it actually came with more food, and I felt lighter eating it. I might keep getting kosher from now on.
For most of our flight we were sleeping.
Hasiba, 8532 Pico Blvd. Los Angeles (Pico-Robertson), CA 90035
Hasiba, the new Israeli/kosher restaurant from the Lodge Bread team, makes its own pita bread and hummus. It’s very much hummus-focused. The vegetarian menu is short: 4 types of hummus served with pita, shakshuka, pita sandwiches, sides, desserts, and drinks.
Order at the counter. Utensils and napkins are kept at the tables. Help yourself to water, raw white onions, and olives. Look for the squeeze bottles of orange hot sauce. The hot sauce is tangy and adds a pop of flavor to your hummus. Bus your own table when you’re done.
* Ful (fava beans, hard boiled egg, tahina, herbs ($13) with pita: Mr. Froyo loved the simplicity of the dish but he said there wasn’t enough pita.
* Wild mushroom hummus with local onion, chermoula, tahina, fresh herbs ($13) served with one thick, warm, Israeli style whole wheat pita. This was so good and very rich. The hummus was creamy and smooth. They topped it with warm mushrooms (trumpet mushrooms) and drizzled it with tahina. The tahina flavor was very strong. I liked the sharp sweetness of the raw white onions, contrasted with the rich hummus. There was a huge pool of olive oil. Mr. Froyo loves olive oil, and even he thought it was excessive. There was so much hummus that both of us had leftovers.
Seating is limited. There are two large communal tables: one inside and one outside. While there’s seating around the sides of the communal table, the space is too narrow for anyone to sit without blocking the people at the communal table from getting in or out. It probably seats about 20 people.
Parking is tough in this area. It’s the Jewish part of town. Closed on Saturdays.
