The Beyond (2017)

My rating: 5/10

This is basically a low-budget, mockumentary style remake of 2001: A Space Odyssey, and for the most part, it almost works - I didn't really buy that nobody had any concerns about the whole "putting brains in robot bodies" thing, but whatever. Also, the space agency is literally called "Space Agency", which just seems a bit lazy. Still, it was kind of an interesting approach to the material and kept me engaged for the most part. The ending was a complete anticlimax, though, I'm still not sure what exactly was supposed to have happened, and planets Do Not Work That Way at all. Whole thing just kind of fizzled.

Also, re: "complexing", as a great man once said: You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.

My rating: 6/10

I mean, yeah, it's basically a somewhat less well-made remake of 2001, and it's very confusing, but it managed to be so in a way that made me want to figure it out rather than get frustrated. Not bad for a mid- to low-budget movie with a single digit cast.
