Shaykh Muhammad Hussien Yaqoub was speaking about being patient with issues of obedience and acts of worship. He said, as a rule of thumb, good deeds bring on more good deeds and bad ones, bring on bad ones.
The example he gave was of a man who goes to the mosque to pray, then after the prayer there was a Quran class about to start, so he joined them for it. Then they tell him they're going to visit a friend of theirs in the hospital then he goes with them. So on the way back they stop at the mosque to pray and there's a funeral and he follows it and on the way he sees a poor person and gives him charity.
The man intended to do good, and Allah (swt) gave him all of these opportunities for obedience. I'm sure you can work out the negative example. Take the first step and inshallah it's the beginning of your own story of obedience.
