Imagine a smooth frog... a soft frog... a mint-colored frog. What you are imagining is the Orinoco lime treefrog [Sphaenorhynchus lacteus], a species found in the Amazon and Orinoco River Basins of South America. These frogs have semi-opaque skin and blunted snouts, often earning them the nickname “hatchet-faced treefrogs”. The Orinoco lime treefrog is semi-aquatic and can be found in flooded plains, lagoons, and at the edges of rivers. Images by Mike Pingleton.
