Are hatchimals like, a cousin creature to the furby?

I'm buying a secondhand one in a week, and I'm wondering what the consensus is. They seem very furby-like to not be related at all, given that they're both from the same brand. Thoughts?

(included is a pic of the type I had as a hatchling, I had the green one, he was a little shit and I loved him so, so dearly.)
