I just saw a post saying that non asshole berkians should have followed their dragons to live in the hidden world and create a new hidden civilization.
And my first thought was Hiccup following Toothless with the ones who were willing and Astrid staying to lead the ones who choose to stay behind— And it just felt so much more natural than Hiccup and Toothless parting!
That is how strong their bond was before httyd 3 ruined it with ooc.
