Beware of AO3 hatebot comments

Just a quick PSA because I keep seeing these posts on Tumblr where people post screenshots of guest comments on AO3 that are the worst vitriolic hate you can think of. Things like "This story is disgusting, you should be ashamed of yourself" or "this story is a confession of your inability to live" or "you're sad, you're wasting your time, you're a NOBODY". Others will claim that they found illegal content in your story that they will report.

These comments are written by AI bots and were not made by real people.

Apparently the intent of them is for the author to feel bad about posting the story and then deleting it so that others can come and repost them elsewhere and claim them as their own work. Yes, it's disgusting and stooping lower than low.

Just know that if you receive such a comment, it's spam. It's not real. It's not someone telling you that you or your writing is worthless. Please report it to AO3 and delete it and don't let it get you down. Another way to avoid it is to switch guest commenting off although I've heard that there are now even spam bot with registered accounts that try to scam you out of money.

Be vigilant and question anything that seems fishy, especially if it's someone asking you for money.

3 Days ago I had a dream about TTCC having a new department called "Hatebots" and they would collect despair.
