Dear Art Director, Let us say you are a full time artist/concept artist/or designer at a company that has been very good to you. You get a really good offer from another company to be a full time artist/concept artist/or designer for more pay. Besides money, what are the best reasons one should accept the offer and change jobs?
You should talk ask to talk to a few people that work in the new company before you decide. If they are recruiting you, they should let you talk to some people there, ideally people you would be working with. Ask them lots of questions about the culture there.
Then you should always give your current job the opportunity to match the money. Especially since they have been good to you, and it sounds like you’d stay except for the money. Don’t be squeamish or feel guilty about it. This is the business. It is very common (in all jobs, not just art) that you don’t get a big raise unless you have another offer to leverage. It’s part of the game.
