Y'know I'm finally going to talk about this because I've kinda made this point off handedly a bunch of times now
The RX-105 Xi Gundam is one of the best non combat machines ever made in the UC despite the fact that it is used as such.
It's become this assumption that the Xi is a monster because of it's design when it by itself would be one of the best search and rescue machines ever developed,
It can fly at Mach 2 comfortably and without issues, at Mach 2 at most you are 8 hours away from anything, meaning that a single pilot can reach many emergencies no matter what.
It can automatically keep altitude even at no speed so if a boat were to suffer in the middle of the ocean the Xi would be the best rescue vehicle there is.
It's hands are so big and yet just as precise as any other Gundam, it could not only hold many people in it's palm, they're also big enough to be able to hold, push or stabilize any object no matter the size.
It's missile silos can definitely be repurposed for storage of first aid and other emergency supplies and with it's speed resupplying would come quick as well.
It can utilize Funnels a technology that we've only ever seen used for war, but imagine if it were used for rescue operations, lifeboats and other rescue devices operated entirely by a pilots thoughts.
And yet it suffered the fate of being a war machine because it's creators needed it to be. It's suffering the burden of being a "monster" because of the technology that gives it wings, it's greatest strength is the reason it's being perceived as a demon.
And I think how that relates to Hathaway, he's a newtype and on his way to become a botanical researcher, he could have done great things, if it wasn't for his own existence and environment leading him down the path of becoming Mafty
