mami is funny af and i find it hilarious theyve had to try to make her relevant or fit into the group when she was literally written and brought into existence to be a fakeout death character whos absence haunts the narrative. and everyone was like. Wait. We like her and her large boobs pelase . And urobuchi had to be like ok fine i guess she can be alive and relevant now forever. but because she was always meant to die and the other 4 girls have their own basically-canon relationships happening, she is stuck with the Mom role and so they gave her nagisa - literally the girl who MURDERS HER IN MOST TIMELINES - to be like. her pet. and also daughter. and also sister. but also ina way its kind of genius because it really illustrates mami's kindhearted nature that even if she knew who nagisa was, i dont think it would matter at all. given the opportunity to act nurturing to anything that needs it, she takes it, and it gives her reason to live. in a way shes not so different from the other girls (theyre all self sacrificing) but its neat shes given a way for this to be healthy in homura's labyrinth. being able to care for another living thing whos very survival doesnt depend on her the way another magical girl would means she can truly feel wanted and needed without risk of tragedy...... its very kind of homura's subconscious, even if nagisa being there was part of madoka's plan. she still clearly wrote her into mami's world in a way that was meant to give her peace.
