To be clear, if I catch any of you shitting on a trans girl who is in high school I am blocking you immediately. I thought the good people of this site would be a bit kinder than twitter users, but I am already seeing some category 7 just absolutely mean behavior, so,
(Putting the rest of this under a cut for those who don't want to see internet fighting. Mind the content warnings as well.)
Quite frankly I do not care all that much what she did. That is a kid with too many followers. Everyone of that type is a little insane. She is not special for being that. It's so interesting that one of the few popular children to be bullied off the internet also happens to be a trans girl. Y'know, the demographic that has a serious problem with being unjustly #cancelled. Can we maybe think about that a little bit before we start the #IsOverParty?
I'd also like to note that, while she did have a teenage-typical-overreaction, she wasn't exactly wrong in what she said about that person either. Case in point, this really cool bit from the thread that I assume prompted her to say this:
I hope we're all on approximately the same page regarding Mizuki, right? We all know she is transfem, and that denying her transfemininity demonstrates both bigotry and a lack of reading comprehension/critical thinking? I really hope so... So like, why did he go and validate transphobic claims here? There was no reason he needed to do that. While this is a somewhat small action and I do understand considering this "not worthy of a #calloutpost", I've seen entirely too many people say that this dude did nothing transphobic. And that is straight up not correct!
Mizuki's gender is not up for interpretation in the "cis guy" direction. It's implicit, yes, for marketing reasons. But it is stated by the text (and outside the text! Remember that she's explicitly called a girl in her middle school model, the one place it would be understandable to not call her that! And there's also the fact that she's grouped with the women in terms of 3D outfits, but I'm going off on a tangent.) that she is a girl. Just because a company wants to sell something to people, doesn't mean that all of the people being sold to are people whose feelings are correct. It just means they have money, and that the company, as companies do, want to maximize income.
So, to conclude this segment, I think we should hold back on calling her some sort of irrational liar, at least in this case.
Also, also, if we're going to shit on Rain for being inflammatory, I think we should be extending equal treatment to everyone else involved. Engaging with someone calling a woman a bitch is fascinating. Engaging with someone calling a trans woman a "they" is equally fascinating. (disclaimer: while I'm fairly certain Rain isn't a "they" user, I'm not 100%, so do feel free to show me evidence if I'm wrong.) I am so extremely tired of people acting like the trans woman is the only aggressor, just like people always do.
I'd also like to add that this bit is especially upsetting to me, on account of Dazaichu being, seemingly, close in age to me. The next image is the best proof I have of that.
Hi. I'm 21. I remember being in high school and a lot stupider than I am currently. When kids start shit with me, I don't engage, because there's a power dynamic between us. I know people will look at my age and think I am more wise or more good or whatever. I also know that talking to legal adults when you're younger than them is kind of terrifying, because they're kind of known to use their Big Age as an excuse to bully, or act righteous, or use that Inherent Smartness that is believed of them to gaslight people who have less life experience. So I don't fight teenagers' fire with fire, because I recognize that my fire has more power. I also don't do it because that is mean. I would not call anyone a bitch, because that's misogynistic, but I especially don't condone saying that about someone who's young and dumb! That's even meaner! What the hell!
To conclude: Please. Please. Can we think a little bit more about whether we really want to have an #IsOverParty for a teenager who was stupid, given the kind of social position she's in? Because me personally, I feel extremely uncomfortable with it, and I'm feeling disgusted at how many people disagree. Thanks.
I’ve always loved Trolls. I think the first character I ever made in WoW was a Troll priest. Something about the big hair and the tribal aesthetic is just so appealing and exciting. It was the sort of thing that told me “Hey, wow, this Warcraft thing isn’t ‘just another fantasy game’, there is some style here.”
If you play a Troll on a roleplay server, however, you can quickly run into a problem where people don’t understand how accents work. Sometimes players will not only force incorrect spelling to emphasize an accent, but they’ll also fail to understand that when speaking in one’s native language you don’t have an accent. Trolls, Draenei, and Dwarves are all guilty of this and you know better, mon. Go talk to any NPC and see how they write the dialogue. Dey might be playin’ with syntax a bit, but ne’er stray too far from dah voodoo.
Also, I should do this more often. Here’s all the ways you can join in on the Tauren It Up family:
I do have a twitter. I try very hard to only post jokes and not get political.
I do have an instant graham. I made a new year’s resolution to draw daily and some of my doodles are worth looking at. Here you’ll find some design process, silly sketches, and once in a while you can see something actually good.
And of course, join us on Discord. Some fun folks hang out. If you need a friend to help you through that Heroes of the Storm quest or just chat, you’ll find it here.
Thinking about the guy who softblocked me because I said theres nuance to playing with a fictional characters gender and yes it actually Is significantly more offensive to do that to one whos canonically trans
its simply a mystery why trans women always get the worst harassment campaigns
Truly a mystery! It's almost like sending the mob after trans women is something that society rewards, something it thinks is a fun game... But that can't be true, right? (*average twitter user voice*) Being bigoted is evil. But I'm not evil! I worry sometimes that I'm evil, and a post I saw a few years ago says that if I worry about being evil, I'm definitely not. Are you sure you're not the evil one here for making me uncomfortable? (*end average twitter user voice*)
The day people realize the structures in place that enable bad things to happen will be a beautiful one. But sometimes I think it will not be a thing that happens.
Why do I have to share oxygen with people who look at a character who is explicitly called a woman in the files of the game she lives in and say her gender is vague
