Kinkfic is fine and all, but informing/layering smut with the tons of k you've written before getting to that point is *bites fist*. Coincidentally (though unrelatedly), this is probably a reason why slow burn is so popular because a smut scene isn't just a smut scene, it carries the weight of everything building up to it.
