“I can’t defeat you, and you can’t defeat me. Seems like we’ll gonna be here for a while.”
I... really like drawing dance poses.

Day one @hatstacheweek, New Beginnings. Started late and didn't wanna spend too much time on it but I didn't want it to be just lineart on a solid background. So I decided to include the messily sketched background. I'll polish them all up at the end of the event like I did last year. Probably.
The way she'd squeezed herself into one of the booths at the far end of the establishment made her seem small and innocuous, both of which were things Hat Kid absolutely was not. She was also not a Hat Kid anymore, which made sense when Mu used more than a single brain cell but still pissed her off to no end anyways.
Monsoon Season (AO3)
It's been four years since Hat Kid left the planet. Four years since Mustache Girl has painstakingly began to piece together the fragmented pieces of her life to try and emerge from the shadows of her bleak existence. When Hat Kid returns without warning, it throws everything back into the air again.
This time, though, maybe it'll be for the better.
Written for day one of @hatstacheweek with the prompts Introduction and Mafia Town in mind.
Nice to meet you… again
For as long as she could remember, all Mu really wanted was to help and be appreciated for it. She didn’t really know well enough what that always meant, a fact that could spell disaster in the right (so to speak) circumstances.
Which is how she ended up in her current situation.
Honestly, she wasn’t even sure how this was set up. After… the Incident, Mu pretty much knew that Hat Kid wouldn’t want any more to do with her. After all, who would want to be friends with her? The girl who essentially destroyed the world in a blind swipe at the perceived evil in it? Yet here she was, about to see Hat Kid in a calm setting in the clock tower. How ironic… yet so so cruelly fitting, she thought.
Mu was starting to think that replying to the alien girl’s notes might have been a mistake.
Regardless of any doubts she has, she could see Hat Kid coming closer now. Mu took a deep yet slightly shaky breath and tried not to put anything in her mouth to naw on in her stress. That would make a bit of a bad impression, right? Even if it would help her nerves a bit.
… She’s trying not to overthink how her face and actions look to the approaching alien, but it’s not easy. It’s also not easy to keep herself from over analyzing Hat Kid’s facial expression and body language. Is she making that face because she doesn’t want to be here, or because that’s just a face she makes while running? Is her ponytail twitching because she’s annoyed or angry at having to talk to Mu (despite having suggested and arranged it), or because she’s excited?
… It was then that Mu realized that growing up with very few people around to learn socialization skills from was really not ideal. Then again not much of her circumstances was.
Before Mu knew it, Hat Kid was there, a smile on her face and her signature top hat perched on her head. The brunette made a few quick gestures, inquiring about what they would be doing and simultaneously making Mu very glad she had taken the time to “borrow” a sign language book.
Mu wasn’t actually sure what they were going to do. “Well, um, what- what do you- what do you think that we should, uh, we should do?” By now Mu was sweating, fidgeting one hand, gripping her cloak with the other hand, and biting her lip. Were those tears in her eyes? She thought that she could feel Hat Kid coming to the conclusion that Mu was, in fact, kinda crazy, and that she should probably leave the blonde in favor of saner friends.
Mu did not anticipate that Hat Kid would notice her emotional turmoil and decide that the best course of action was a hug. The contact startled her, and her street cat instincts reeled at the uninvited invasion of personal space. Yet she couldn’t bring herself to pull away, Hat Kid was so warm, and when was the last time anyone had hugged her, had cared enough to try to give comfort?
… The unfamiliarity of the gesture was really not a good sign.
Soon, Hat Kid pulled away, worry across her face and concern filling her strange but nice hourglass-pupiled eyes. She signed, I’m not mad at you. Start over, if you want? Mu couldn’t believe it. With definitely teary eyes, she nodded.
Ok, Hat Kid signed contentedly, let’s start over. I’m Hat Kid. It’s nice to meet you?
“… M-Mu. I’m Mu. It’s n-nice to meet you… Hat Kid.” Mu both spoke and signed.
Hat Kid smiled and signed, H-A-T-T-I-E is good too, if you want.
Mu smiled. “Yeah… y-yeah! I’d like that. Thank you.” For everything, ever. “Now… what? What are we doi- wait! Wait where are you going?! Hold on!”
