St. Andrew’s On The Red

St. Andrew’s on the Red, completed in 1849, is located in the town of Selkirk which is more or less a suburb of Winnipeg. It is the oldest stone church in Western Canada, and it may be the region’s most haunted, thanks to the spirits of former plague victims.

Other apparitions are said to populate the church’s graveyard. Eyewitnesses have reported seeing a ghostly man clad in black and a mysterious woman in white. Also, a disembodied pair of red eyes have startled visitors in the past, while a ghost car has been noted not far from the church’s main entrance.

If you are thinking about visiting the church or its graveyard, be wary: Those who’ve claimed to have seen the various apparitions also reported having terrible nightmares the following nights. Most of these nightmares apparently involved the gates of the cemetery, which rattle even though no hands are seen shaking them.

Adams Grove Presbyterian Church  Dallas County, Alabama

This small, inactive church is made of simple wood columns and doesn’t really resemble a place of worship. Privately owned, the property has been the talk of the small isolated town for years. With the sightings of a former minister and the creepy ghost of a confederate soldier who scares people off the property, warning they to “stay away,” it is often a one-time-only trip for several ghost hunters around the nation due to its creepiness.

St. Louis Cathedral  New Orleans, Louisiana

Lousiana is one of the country’s most infamous states when it comes to the supernatural. It is one of the oldest churches around and has a breathtaking view. Well-known personalities in history, such as voodoo queen Marie Laveau and french socialite Delphine Lalaurie, are just two of the many devoted people to set foot in here. These women were known for their love for the dark arts and slave torture; they are said to be two of the many entities walking among the living in the cathedral. People have also witnessed the apparitions of 6 men who were executed on the church grounds.

Church of Eternal Light Bristol, Connecticut

The church of eternal light was one of the three original church’s in the town and was built in 1884, originally as a school house. In 1889 it was changed into a chapel and on February 18, 2001, it officially became a pagan spiritualist church and remains one to this day.

There is one main report of a haunting at this location, and that is the apparition of a women who can be seen wearing a dress of the early 1900’s fashion, she is said to be seen walking the grounds and all areas of the church, who she is however remains unknown. There is a common tale about how someone was killed on the step’s of the church by being struck by lightening, whether this is true or not is unknown as any official sources of information, such as in the form of newspaper articles cannot be found.

Other reports from this building include Orbs showing up on film within the main room of the church, and people who claim to hear whispers coming from an unidentified source, what is being said however is not clear enough to make out.

Christ Church of Alexandria Alexandria Virginia

A colonial era church and registered as a national landmark, The Christ Church of Alexandria served famous patrons such as George Washington and Robert E. Lee. The church also houses a cemetery on its grounds, where 34 confederate prisoners of war lost their lives in local prison camps during the American Civil War. Several occurrences have been registered by people claiming to have seen the soldiers roaming around the area and strange banging sounds in the evening. In 2010, a woman who was visiting the church took a snapshot and captured a face on the photograph, some people say it’s proof of real ghosts while others think it’s just a man’s reflection.

Salem Black River Church Sumter, South Carolina

Salem Black River Church was built back in 1846 and it is said to be home to several different ghosts. In fact, it is considered to be one of the most haunted buildings in South Carolina.

One of the ghosts is said to be a spectre of a Southern Belle, another is a very sad little boy often seen sobbing. It is also said to be haunted by a priest whose entire family was wiped out by the plague.

At the back of the church is a small building where people have experienced cold spots, seen lights flickering and even encounters a shadowy figure of a man who might be the priest in question.
