I should have read this as soon as it came out, but it feels more appropriate that I waited until October, since the story takes place over Halloween. I’m so happy that @sarahkuhnbooks’s Heroine Complex series is continuing past the first three books, because reading them genuinely fills me with joy. I’ve said before how this is one of the best superhero comics I’m reading, except it’s in prose. I was particularly impressed at how different this one felt from the previous books, while still being perfectly consistent with what came before. This felt smaller scale, almost like a mystery that needed to be solved with the characters’ brains, rather than by punching something. (Not that they earlier ones were that basic, either, now that I type that.) I also loved that it had a clear point of view, and a story with some impact.
