Happy #3FatesFactsFriday Today’s fact is brought to you by 🐻! This week I am giving you a post pandemic travel idea. 🌴 How about a trip to the St. Augustine Lighthouse and Maritime Museum in Florida? This is not only a beautiful and historical place to visit but it is also believed by many to be haunted. Apparently, on July 10, 1873, a tragic accident happened at the site. Hezekiah Pittee was hired to oversee the construction on a new Saint Augustine lighthouse tower after the erosion and destruction of the previous Tower. He and his family moved to the site while he was Superintendent of the Lighthouse Construction. Supplies were brought in by ship to build the new tower. A railway cart moved the supplies from the water to the site. Riding the cart down to the water as a Victorian era roller coaster was a favorite activity of the children of the workers who worked on the tower. One day a tragic accident happened and the cart flipped over into the water trapping the children inside under the water. Three little girls died that day including two from the Pittee family. It is believed that these children haunt the tower and surrounding grounds. Visitors have heard children giggling when touring the tower and basement areas. Some tourists have even reported seeing apparitions of little girls sitting on park benches or standing in parts of the tower.
