If one thing can be said about Jonathan Crane that can't be said enough, I think it's the fact that he accepts himself. He KNOWS he's weird, he looks it and he acts it--but even more so, he EMBRACES it.
He may have once put value on the words of others, such as his fellow professors, but not anymore. he's too old and focused on fear to give a rats ass. He's a queer fellow and he OWNS IT
They made it as far as Neptune’s capital city before Nureyev stopped driving.
He pulled the Ruby Seven to the side of the street, turning off the engine. They were just outside Salacia, on the outskirts of one of the city's many suburbs. It was silent, the roads empty and lit only by a flickering street lamp in dire need of service. But still Nureyev was cautious as he stepped out the car, his head on a pivot as he checked for cameras.
There was a bank across the street, its glowing sign proudly advertising an ATM. But a carefully aimed laser from his pocket made short work of its camera. By the time anyone thought to reconstruct what was left of the tape, he would be long gone.
Hands trembling and heart aching, that thought shouldn’t have hurt nearly as much as it did.
Fold it away.
The bus depot was only a few kilometres away. It would take him to the spaceport, where one of his three shuttle tickets would get him far away from here. Each one had been paid for under a different name, and each one was headed in a different direction. Even Nureyev wasn’t certain which shuttle he intended to catch, he would pick at random when he got there.
Nureyev grabbed his bag, and slung it over his shoulder. It was light, small enough to fit under his seat on the shuttle and packed only with essentials. Everything else had been destroyed when he… when he…
Unbidden, his eyes burned, filling with tears. Nureyev tilted his head back, jaw clenched as he blinked rapidly.
Fold it away.
There was only one thing left to do. With hands trembling so badly he nearly dropped it, Nureyev pulled Peter Ransom’s comms out of his pocket, with its purple case and dangling fox charm. The tiny thing had been a gift from Rita after their second week aboard the carte blanche, handed to him with a hug and a fit of giggles.
The charm spun lazily on its tether, orange enamel glinting in the streetlight. He snapped it off, slipping it into the front pocket of his jacket before powering on his comm. It came to life with a chime and a flurry of missed messages.
He ignored them all, pausing only to muster a watery smile at Juno’s lovely face staring up at him from the wallpaper. With a few button presses, he erased everything from the device. The SIM card was removed in short order and snapped in two before he dropped the comm and smashed it beneath the heel of his boot.
All in all, it was a far nicer funeral than Peter Ransom deserved.
Behind him, the Ruby seven whistled- low and inquisitive as its headlights flashed. Nureyev rolled his shoulders as he grasped his emotions tight and shoved them somewhere deep inside him.
“Thank you for bringing me this far.” He told it, running a grateful hand along the slope of its hood.
The greatest getaway vehicle in the galaxy. If it wasn’t for this car, Nureyev wouldn’t have been able to escape Dark Matters. Even if he wasn’t the one they were looking for, Rex Glass was not something easily forgotten, or forgiven.
Another chirp, more enthusiastic than before as the driver's side door popped open, the engine turning over with a hopeful rumble. But Nureyev shook his head.
“Not this time, I’m sorry to say.” He said sadly, taking a step back. “This is where we part, I fear. Go back to Carte Blanche.”
He had spent years of his life idolising this car. Stealing it from the Oasis Casino had been one of his greatest achievements as a thief. It had saved his life so many times over the last few years. His, and far more importantly Juno’s.
Nureyev only prayed it could save the detective one last time.
The Ruby revved its engines, back tires spinning in place and spitting up gravel. If it wasn’t a car, Nureyev would call the display petulant.
“This isn’t up for debate.” Nureyev told it firmly, jaw clenched against the burning behind his eyes. He had made it this far, he would not cry now. Not when it was his decision to leave. Not when he had torn apart everything that Juno had tried to build for them. Not when this was his fault. “Go find Jet and the others. They need you.”
Outside of the city lights, Nureyev could just make out the stars through the dome. If he squinted he could pretend that one of the glowing white specs was the ship he had left behind. The ship that Dark Matters had invaded.
But if they had the ruby, then maybe the crew of the Carte Blanche still stood a chance. Nureyev may have abandoned them, but he couldn’t… He wouldn’t… He had to do something.
Warm metal nudged against his legs as the Ruby inched forward, vibrating with the force of its engines. But Nureyev turned his back on it.
“You are the greatest getaway car in the galaxy.” He forced out, fists clenched at his side.“They need you. I can’t take you from them. Now go, Ruby.”
The blast of a horn shattered the silent night. But louder still was the whip crack of Nureyev’s voice as he whirled on it.
“I said GO!”
Nureyev bit down the pang of sympathy that clawed at his throat as the Ruby whistled, low and dejected sounding. Its door slammed closed, gravel crunching beneath its tires as it backed away from him
Breathing hard in the wake of his outburst, Nureyev watched it turn around and drive away. His nerves were struggling as tight as garrote wire as the Ruby’s thrusters activated, burning orange then blue as it lifted into the sky.
Nureyev couldn’t look away, even as the Ruby faded from view. Tears poured down his cheeks- he wiped at them futilely, but it did nothing to stem the tide. A strangled sob escaped Nureyev’s lips as his only way home left without him.
this is not remotely what people followed me for but -
here are some of my thoughts on imelda rivera from coco.
people who villianize her... please do not. it's much more severe with alma (who tbh is darker in the whole morally grey side but whilst she made mistakes, she was: incredibly traumatised by her husband being murdered in front of her, thrust into the position of leadership and raising three children alone). okay, encanto alma tangent aside, here is why I find it infuriating when people villianise imelda.
yeah, héctor did not deserve how he was treated, in life or in death. but placing the blame on imelda seems to be kind of missing the point and ignoring the context and not sympathising with her. I saw a post where the op was like 'encanto fixed coco's mistake by having alma apologise for her mistakes in pressuring her family' which... no. this is an over conflation between the two films. they're both about generational familial trauma, but in vastly different ways by different causes in different cultural and historical contexts. mamá imelda does realise her mistakes when she finally lets go of the music condition regarding miguel's blessing, which is implied rather than explicit, but it's there. the music ban came from a really deep place of hurt and trauma. I do not believe that imelda's efforts of erasing héctor would have been as strong if she had not loved him so deeply; her pain speaks of the deepest betrayal and confusion. why did her husband leave her? Didn't he love her and Coco? Why is her daughter's special lullaby now a gaudy song? She does not know.
People attacking imelda always rub me the wrong way. Picture this: it is the 1920s. WWII just happened, as did the Mexican Revolution and the Spanish Flu. You are, in the eyes of your neighbours, a forsaken woman whose husband has left her. You have a young child to raise and provide for. Do you have the time and resources to look for said husband? No! I saw someone suggest that Imelda should have gone looking for Héctor when he suddenly disappeared, and that is highly impractical.
No matter how much she loved Héctor, she had other priorities. Of course she would be incredibly concerned and hurt when his letters abruptly stopped! And he was touring with his beloved hermano, Ernesto! Surely he would have told Imelda if anything bad happened to her husband, right? What is more believable: your young handsome husband leaving you behind to chase fame or fortune, or his best friend murdering from his songs on his way home? How should Imelda have known?
It is likely that Imelda did not know that her husband died in 1921. Ernesto likely covered his tracks by implying to Imelda that her husband ran off. He is an incredibly conniving and manipulative character. If Imelda knew her husband had died, she probably would have wanted him to have credit for his music or messed up Ernesto's plans some other wag - too risky! Ernesto does not trust or like Imelda. Instead, Ernesto implies to Imelda that she and Coco have been abandoned. For fame, fortune, or another woman. It is the 1920s. Even if it is out of character for Héctor (he was such a loving husband and father in the flashbacks), it was certainly in character for men of the time. Town gossip likely exacerbated her worries, doubts.
Imelda did not have the space to be weak. She had to be strong. When she scrubbed Héctor from her life, it was not to condemn him to the Final Death. She was trying to protect herself and her family.
As much as I love Héctor Rivera, the blame for his fate lies with Ernesto, who murdered him and lied to his wife and stole his music... not his wife who was unknowingly widowed in 1920s Mexico (part of the time she raised Coco alone was during the Great Depression)!
Anyway, I will not tolerate Imelda Rivera slander. Yeah, maybe she should have heard Héctor out in the Land of the Dead, but for her it was five decades too late. The hurt was deeply, deeply entrenched, the lingering sting of betrayal.
But she did so remarkably well in an incredibly challenging situation (as did Alma). Please accept these complex and traumatised Latina single mothers with the same nuance and understanding you extend to troubled white men.
Anyway. Some thoughts on Coco. Now you know where I stand regarding Imelda Rivera (and Alma Madrigal).
In the light of the whole doomsday arc and chaos I think it's important to like,,, clarify ? Some points ppl r makin even tho theyre prob not gonna see it.
Also!! This is all /roleplay and talking about the characters not the content creators
Yes, everyone has fucked up. That's what they're ALL going for, especially the ppl takin the lead when it comes to the writin of the script. Everyone is a fucked up character and everyone is a good character with the exception of Dream.
Now to get some more in depth:
Let's start with c!Tubbo. Since the beginning he's been put into tight and bad situations. Watching his friends get exiled, being made a spy for the sake of Intel to win a war which is So Much Pressure, eventually fighting in said war, being made president of the revolutionized country but then immedietly having to rebuild it, later be manipulated to exile his beat friend and brother in arms etc etc. It's a lot of trauma and greif, it's not false to call him a child solider because that's exactly what he is. Schlatt was right, the moment he died the country was doomed, wether that be from Pogtopia, Technoblade, Dream or the inevitability that the leadership would fall onto Tubbo. He's not infallible and he's not experienced. He's a severely Traumatised teenager. But this doesn't necessarily make him a good person.
Next is c!Technoblade because I have some Opinions. He's a fucked up character. Just like everyone else, just in a more transparent way. A lot of the characters hide the bad things they've done in a way to preserve moral righteousness and such. Technoblade has always been clear and transparent he wants nothing more than anarchy, chaos and the fall of L'manburg. Now, acts of terrorism aren't good, they're pretty fucked up. The great thing about his character is that he's so goddman complex. Just like Tubbo and Tommy he's been wronged. And just like Tubbo and Tommy he's a hypocrite. That's what happens when you have morally grey and ambiguous characters. He made his intentions about anarchy clear and Pogtopia made their intentions about Governments clear, they both chose to ignore eachother which in the end made them Hypocrites. A specific point I want to make about Technoblade teaming up with Dream is that Tommy has NEVER been clear with Technoblade with how Dream treated him. Technoblade couldn't have known what Dream did because of Tommy's trauma about speaking about it and Dream's manipulation. Technoblade teamed up with Dream because they shared a common goal, he doesnt trust Dream and has voiced that before. Also! Tommy's point in their argument in the middle of Doomsday was really interesting, he said (I'm paraphrasing) "why can't you just let people love what they love." A thing to note is that Technoblade DID. After the end of the revolution he left to go live in retirment and solitude and let them fight amongst eachother and destroy eachother. The very same Government he predicted to be corrupt then tried to execute him without trial even though they said he'd be given one. Which is a pretty corrupt thing to do. In the end Technoblade was used and just a little bit mistreated but he's not in the right because of that. Again, he can be seen in the lense of a Villain but that doesn't mean he really is one.
Now onto c!Tommy. His character is deffinetly an interesting one! I think his main fault is his own hubris. He's prideful to a default and stubborn when it comes to the idea he could have done something wrong because of how badly he wants to be the/a hero. Now, I'm not saying he HASN'T taken accountability for some things he's said and done because he most certainly has and thus has grown as a character. Another huge fault is his hyperfixation on the emotions and people attached to objects. Honestly? Tubbo logically wasn't wrong, they're just discs. But in Tommy's head they're a symbol of his and Tubbo's friendship. The problem is when he picks these discs over his actual friendship with Tubbo and how Dream has manipulated him. Dream plays a BIG part in why Tommy thinks the discs are so valuable. If you're told enough times and manipulated into thinking objects hold a significant value to the things important to you then eventually they become fiercely important to you and have some weight to them. I think in the beginning, in Tommy's brain destroying the discs meant his and Tubbo's friendship was over because of the part they've played in their friendship. Again, Tubbo only ever saw them as dics, plastic vinyls that drop from mobs and play pretty music. To another point, Tommy is also explicitly Hypocritical, just like Technoblade. He holds onto the fact that Tubbo and L'manburg and it's people are his friends and he cares about him but then calls Technoblade his friend and casts his emotions aside. The problem is the blatant fact that Tommy used Technoblade as a weapon and after being called out that friends don't do that to eachother he ignores it. In this instance he's no better than Technoblade. A kinda big problem is his character development, which really doesn't have a lot to do with c!Tommy and more with how the writers suggest developing him as a character. I think the main thing is that he goes to Tubbo's side saying how the discs never truly mattered to later saying they need the discs. The discs don't matter. What matters is defeating Dream. But just like Tubbo, Tommy is a highly and incredibly traumatised Teenager.
Next is c!Ranboo, the mad lad! I don't really have a whole lot to say? Just some quick analysis of what his characters ideals are and his actions in everything. Looking at his character he's incredibly paranoid, anxious and probably Traumatised from things we the audience don't know. At the end of the day he's a true neutral character. In one of the tweets cc!Ranboo sent it said that as long as Dream isn't hurting the people he (character Ranboo) directly cares about, he doesn't care what Dream does. For a good portion he was against Dream because he cared about everyone nd dream was hurting everyone. He's joined Technoblade and Ph1lza in the Arctic because he thinks that Dream has gotten what he wants, he doesn't know anything about Dream and Tommy's conversation by the end of Doomsday. Also! Ranboo's ideals/beliefs are anarchist by nature and principle. The reason he has a problem with choosing sides between L'manburg and Dream is because of the hierarchy within those sides, and the obligation that you have to fight that comes with picking those sides. Technoblade and Ph1lza both chose to fight under free will and because they chose too without coercion. Everyone is equal there. There's a really good post somewhere talking about it that'll I'll look for that explains it very well. (EDIT: found the post also hopefully i did the link right)
About anarchy and Ranboo's meditation of people choosig sides
When Ranboo thinks about sides he is thinking about what anarchists (as I unde
This is getting painfully long so I'm wrapping it up here with a few last things. Everything has always come down to Dream. The reason L'manburg was built was to get away from the oppressive power that is Dream (another point for Technoblade teaming up w dream, he wasn't there for Dreams stuff, he only knew of Schlatt but I digress). Dream has manipulated everyone, he's running the puppet show with the strings tied to his fingers. He's manipulated Tubbo, Tommy, Ranboo, Technoblade, Schlatt, EVERYONE. He's pitted everyone against eachother because he loves the chaos. Because he knows that if they weaken eachother it'll be a lot easier to take control with less effort put in from his part. Dream has always been the main antagonist from the very very beginning. Sure some could say Tommy started it with the discs but Dream was the one who took them in the first place etc.
He's also pitted the audience against eachother. It's really interesting in how he's actually manipulated the audience. It doesn't matter who's on what side or who's wronged who when the cause for all their greif has always been Dream. The fandom is fighting over traitors and betrayals and villain arcs. It doesn't matter, not when Dream is runnin free with the amount of power that he has.
The fact that John Cooley probably thought Emily was dead makes me so sad. Do u think anyone told him after 7x01 or did he just find out through like a news report of her working on another crime or something? Do u think he even knew she was dead? I assume she would've had an obituary.
Also, did anyone tell her mother?!??? How do u even broach that subject? You can't call them on the phone but u can't just show up unless you want to give them a heart attack.
i don't know if you've done any snippits on this yet, but after reading your Royal Bastard AU tags and going through your Star Wars crossover ideas on it.... how about Avatar the Last Airbender? How would Ace and Co react to that unholy mess?
Bold of you to assume that Ace wouldn’t adopt Zuko in three seconds.
Ace: *winds up hanging out with Iroh and Zuko*
Ace: ..... So, if I theoretically went and murdered the firelord-
Zuko: *who has grown fond of Ace* YOU CAN’T- you can’t just go and kill him!!
Ace: *blinks* Well, why not? It’s not like I haven’t killed monarchs before.
Zuko: WHAT
Iroh: Now, now, if Ace wants to go and murder your father I don’t see why he shouldn’t be allowed to.
Meanwhile with the Avatar:
Aang: So, you’re not a bender.
Nyx: Nope.
Sokka: Then how do you do that zapping thing! The teleporting! That has to be bending!
Nyx: Nope. It’s magic.
Sokka: *froths at the mouth* MAGIC ISN’T A THING
Nyx: *holds out hand and turns ice to fire to lightning* isn’t it? :3
And then Ace drags Zuko and Iroh to the Gaang because ‘Listen you need allies and also friends we’re gonna go and find the Avatar because I’m confident that you’re not going to turn him in after that life changing field trip with Iroh and me.’
And then Ace tells Iroh and Nyx to watch the kids while he goes and dismantles a regime.
