ryland was not born into money but instead his birth mother was the housekeeper of a wealthy couple, the kim family, whom would allow him to play around the mansion while she cleaned. unfortunately, his mother fell ill when he was three and passed away two years later. mrs. kim adopted ryland much to mr. kim’s dismay and their only child, (N/A), got a younger brother.
mrs. kim treated ryland as if he were her own flesh and blood while mr. kim refused to wholeheartedly accept him. (N/A) was excited to have a sibling and for the first year of living with them, he was the only one that ryland would ever speak more than a single word to. the boys were inseparable and got into all kinds of mischief together which always resulted in (N/A) being the child to receive a scolding whether it was his fault or not. their reasoning behind this was because (N/A) was the heir to the kim corporation and needed to learn discipline, but that never stopped the brothers.
since mr. kim didn’t view ryland as a true part of the family, it proved to cause a lot of conflict between him and the man as time went on. in his father’s eyes, he was lower on the totem pole in comparison to (N/A) and this led any kind of expectations of him to be almost nonexistent.
the two brothers attended a private school for the children of the united states’ wealthiest families and ryland would have had a harder time getting by if he didn’t have (N/A) who was much more popular. he’d always eat with him at lunch and hang out with him and his friends which the elder son didn’t mind.
ryland was able to get away with things easier than his older brother and didn’t have to worry about upholding the family image. it didn’t bring any problems to their relationship at first, however, that all changed when they were teenagers. (N/A) began distancing himself from the younger, calling him annoying and telling him he had to grow up, leading ryland to feel alone aside from the love and affection he received from his mother.
as a result of his growing loneliness, he turned to smoking marijuana as an outlet to cope with the sudden change.
after graduating, he couldn’t stand to be in the same house as his father and his brother was no longer in his corner so he moved out with some financial help from mrs. kim, she bought him his current apartment.
he began learning more about the cannabis industry and growing the plant since it was more convenient and he was genuinely interested in the things it could be used for — that's his secret. ryland soon got a reputation for being the man in the area to call for quality drugs at an affordable price, at least, affordable for the elite

all was well until her grandfather was rushed to the hospital due to a bad fall injury only to be told they found cancerous cells in his bone marrow.

& 1 year after the diagnosis, he passed away peacefully in his bed.
even when she got to the age of moving out, she decided to stay. there was nothing she loved more than being around her family.

post apocalypse
the day the outbreak hit, it was her 21st birthday & her family went out while she was still asleep to set up a surprise birthday party at a friend’s house.
she awoke up to the sound of her alarm & woke up like any other day.
she got dressed, fed the animals & then watched the news; her daily before-breakfast routine. she also saw the “we’re out” note her family left.
daisy was immediately startled when the apparent 21st report was broadcasting. the footage shown made her stomach turn.
she decided to wait for her family to get back home before totally freaking out & so they could start putting up defenses around the farm.
but they never came back or called.
after waiting for nearly 4 hours, daisy got in the car and headed into town.
the area was absolutely frantic. her conscious told her they were at their friend’s house and so, she headed straight there.
to her absolute shock, her parents & grandmother were there. dead on the ground in a puddle of blood.
daisy went to mourn them but instead, they rose before her eyes & tried to attack her. and so, in a fit of panic and heartbreak, she got back into her car and drove off without looking back.
she stayed at her farm with the animals for an entire year before almost all of her animals passed away due to starvation. the animals ended up turning & almost killed daisy when she tried to mourn them.
with a very heavy heart, daisy went back into town in hopes of finding someone. anyone.
& luckily, she stumbled across haven safe zone. and since then, she’s stayed; slowly making a name for herself.

PART 2: GROWING UP
born in daegu to an up and coming lawyer and business woman, his family relocated to america when chaemin was eight.
when they first moved, they lived in new york, both his parents becoming well known in their respected areas. and with this fame came money.
they hadn’t been poor before, but the kangs now had a life of luxery and didn’t have to worry about the small things - there was always food to be eaten, bills were paid on time and christmas was full of gifts. everything was perfect.
until chaemin turned eleven and things started to change. his father was home less but drinking more,and his mother kept giving the “he had a hard case” excuse.
his father first hit his mother the day before chae turned twelve, hitting chae for the first time only days later.
this went on for years, his mother trying to give the illusion of a perfect family, and his father over-drinking and hitting them. multiple hospital visits with more excuses, because who would believe a well respected lawyer, one who had helped several domestic abuse victims, was hitting his family?
one night, just shy of his seventeenth birthday, almost five years since it began, chaemin couldn’t take it any more. his mother’s face had a gash along her cheek bone, caused by the broken bottle in his fathers hands and his father was approching chaemin.
it had all happened so fast, but the next thing chae remembers was his fathers shocked face, and seeing the bottle imbedded in his chest, before he dropped the the floor.
chaemin was never arrested, their security footage showed it all, it had been in self defence.
after his fathers death, his mother turned to drugs, eventually having an overdose and passing before chae even reached twenty. not being able to stand living in the city any more, he moved as far away as he could, all the way to san francisco.
his parents money had all went to him, so he had no problem moving into the apartment complex or keeping up with his bills.
in new york, he had been studying legal theory at nyu, dropping out of his final year when he moved and now studying music at SF state university along with working at a bookstore downtown.

kyrie has been living in san francisco his entire life, and has lived in the apartment building for four years. his roommate is his best friend / soulbro jamie.
kyrie is a child from an affair. his biological father paid off his mother to keep kyrie’s paternity a secret ( he’s echo’s half brother ). because of his ‘ monthly donations ’, the song family was able to live comfortably, though the song family wasn’t as wealthy as most of kyrie’s friends and peers from his bougie high school.

ryuichi was born in tokyo, japan. he’s from a lowerclass family, and was raised by a single mother. they never got along and would argue a lot, because of their type-a personalities.
always had the feeling that he was destined to do greater things, and had dreams of making it big some day. singing is something he has felt passionate about for as long as he can remember.
at sixteen, he was scouted by a representative from a record company. ryuichi immediately dropped out of high school, which made the tension between him and his mother even worse. though she acknowledged her son was a talented singer, she never supported his career choice, as she didn’t believe it would get him anywhere.
at eighteen, ryuichi debuted as a lead singer of a japanese rockband. they were quite succesful, but fame quickly went to the boy’s head. his arrogance and diva behavior would bring down moral in the band. ryuichi would constantly fight and argue with his fellow band mates, because he felt like he was better and more talented than the rest of them.

ezra comes from ‘humble beginnings’, which also happens to be his secret. for the first eleven years of his life, he was very poor, and had to help taking care of his younger sister due to his parents neglecting both of them. they were in a toxic relationship, and there was a lot of domestic violence in the house between the two of them.
