Sooner or later Fenris was going to learn of Hawke’s habit of letting himself into his friends’ homes whenever it suits him. Usually it is guiltless; Merrill appreciates his visits, Aveline’s among the guards and he considers it his right as a citizen of Kirkwall to intrude, If Isabela and Varric didn’t like company, they wouldn’t have taken up lodgings in the Hanged Man, and that questionable clinic that Anders shelters in would be a poor establishment if its doors were always closed ( not that a closed door has ever been a sufficient deterrent for Hawke ).
‘I took the liberty,’ Hawke explains about his presence, leaning against the doorframe as he examines the elf. He’s not sure what he is looking for, exactly; maybe a cue to draw his blades, because he’s still a long way from TRUSTING this fugitive. Kindness doesn’t buy anything in this city, especially not mutual trust. But he does hope that this visit might work to resolve that.
It won’t take two people to head down to the Docks and bully some upstart worker into coughing up a debt he owes, particularly not since Hawke is acquiring a reputation for wringing the coin out of people one way or another. It’s good to have someone watching his back, however----and more importantly, he likes to have company.
‘But consider it a favour,’ Hawke continues. ‘Someone’s got to help you out into the sunlight again, and as always, the task seems to have fallen to me.’
