Blue Hour (Hawks Fic)
Hi pals! This is chapter 1 of my Hawks fic. You can find the prologue to this story here, Chapter 2
Word Count 4.8k
Chapter 1
Four years had passed since Jiko had Youta and those years felt like minutes. Jiko felt like she couldn‘t spend enough time with her son even though she spent every moment she could with him. As far as having a child went, Jiko felt like she was pretty blessed. He was a well-behaved kid, didn’t throw fits, always used his manners and made sure that he did everything he could for Jiko.
Youta looked more and more like Keigo with every passing day. He had dirty blonde hair that Jiko could never seem to tame so she just let it do what it wanted. Small red wings were attached to his back and they looked more and more like Keigo‘s every time she looked at them. His nose was slightly upturned, another feature he inherited from his father. But his eyes were a dark brown that resembled Jikos.
Currently, the two of them were curled up on the couch together. Youta was curled into Jikos lap, watching news coverage of a villain attack. Another thing that Youta had inherited from Keigo was his overwhelming love for heroes and watching them do their job.
“Mama! Look! He‘s gonna get them!” Youta said, pointing his little finger at the T.V frantically. All Might was on screen, one of Youta‘s ultimate favorites.
“Yeah he is!“ She said happily, glancing down at the little boy who was bouncing with excitement as he watched All Might take down a villain. After the villain was done, All Might threw up a thumbs up and smiled at the camera. Youta mimicked him almost immediately and Jiko laughed as she ruffled his hair. When she glanced back at the T.V., she noticed an extremely familiar face.
Well, not his face at first. She noticed a large red wing span flying into the frame and she heard Youta audibly gasp. His tiny hand flew back to his own wings before he looked up at his mom.
“Look! Look! We both have wings!” He said happily and Jiko just nodded before she turned the T.V. off. This caused an audible reaction from her son but Jiko just looked down at him.
“It‘s bedtime.“ She said and the boy huffed.
“Fine.“ He said as he lifted himself from his mothers arms, hoovering above the ground in front of her.
“No flying in the house.” She said and Youta giggled, landing on the ground beside her.
“I know!” He said before they headed to his bedroom. Youta changed himself into his pjs and crawled into bed. Jiko followed soon after him, laying down beside her son. They did this every night, laying in bed together until Youta fell asleep.
“Mama?“ Youta said, and Jiko looked down her son.
“Hm?“
“Can you tell me about dad again?“ He said sadly and Jiko frowned. She scooted down so that she was at eye level with her son. She had never kept details of Youtas‘ father from him, the only thing she never told him was his name.
“What do you wanna know tonight?”
“What was he like?“ Youta asked.
“Well, he was a lot like you.“ She said, poking his chest gently. This earned a small giggle from Youta. “He was kind, smart, loving, funny.“
“Do you think he would like me?“ Youta asked, cutting his mom off. This brought small tears to Jiko‘s eyes.
“He would love you, Youta.“ She said softly, kissing her sons forehead. “He did love you. Does love you. From the moment he knew about you, he told you how much he loved you.“
“Why did he have to leave?“
“Sometimes you have to protect other people. You have to put their safety in front of your own feelings, yanno? Like, when you watch pros on T.V., they are constantly putting other people first right?“
Youta nodded.
“Well, think about it like that. Everything that was done was done to protect you.“ She said softly and Youta nodded his head. He was a little too young to understand truly what happened, but he understood that his mom did everything to protect him. It took a little while for Youta to fall asleep but once he did, Jiko kissed his head and left his room.
Jiko sat down on her couch, pulling out her phone. It had been a little bit since she had looked Keigo up. She did it periodically to see what he was up to. She may have fallen off the face of the earth from him, but that didn't mean that she didn't care about him. She had to constantly remind herself that she did everything she did for Keigo. Because he wouldn't have the success he had now if she had stayed in her life with her son.
Pictures of Keigo popped up as soon as she hit search. Pictures of him at the opening of his agnecy, pictures of him with different pretty girls (which struck a small nerve in the back of Jiko‘s neck). There were a few pictures of him saving the day and a few of him at some clubs. The photos of him at the clubs, she recognized the bracelet on his wrist as one she had made for him when they were younger. It was mostly obscured by the long sleeve black shirt he was wearing but she could see just the edge of it.
She missed Keigo more than she could fathom. She spent countless hours wondering if he thought about her as much as she thought about him.
He didn‘t.
Kiego spent most of his time trying not to think about Jiko, so he started his agency so that he would have something to occupy his time. He worked from the moment he woke up til late hours of night, sometimes going for days at time on what felt like no sleep. He couldn't help it. Being busy meant that there was no time for him to think about what he was missing in life.
He filled the hole that Jiko used to fill with random girls. Flings left and right, just so he could pretend he felt something. But the truth was that he didn‘t feel much anymore. Jiko was the only thing in his life that truly made him feel complete and like his life had some kind of purpose. Without her in it, he felt like robot.
He was okay with that though. Same routine. Wake up, fight crime, spend time with a random woman, sleep. Lately the woman hadn’t be as random. He had started causally dating a girl name An. She was okay. She wasn‘t exactly fun but she was there, waiting for Keigo when he got off work every night. She would make him dinner, ask him about his day. It was comfortable for him.
That was the woman that Jiko kept seeing as she looked through photos of him. She was pretty, long blonde hair and crystal blue eyes. She didn‘t necessarily look like she fit with Hawks, but Jiko figured he must see something in her.
She continued to scroll for a little while longer until her eyelids got tired. She went to her bedroom, laid her head down and let sleep overtake her.
-
“Mama!“ A small voice squeaked as Youta dropped all of his weight on his mom to take her up. This caused Jiko to let out a huff of air and a sigh opening her eyes to look at her little boy. He was sitting on top of her, wings flapping slightly. A large smile was spread over his lips.
“Five more minutes.“ She mumbled, pretending to close her eyes and go back to sleep. Youta let out a small giggle before he started shaking.
“No! Up! Wake up!“ He said, and Jiko let out a playful groan. She quickly grabbed her son and rolled over so that she was sitting up and he was on the bed. She then began to tickle him, causing his laughter to errupt through the room.
Jiko slowly stopped tickling him, both of them laughing as she scooped him up in her arms. “Fine! I‘m up. What do you want to do today, dove?“ She asked, kissing his head. She had started calling Youta the nickname that Keigo called her out of habit. It ended up just sticking after a while.
“Park! Park!“ He said happily and Jiko rolled her eyes.
“You always wanna go to the park.“ She laughed and he nodded his head furiously.
“The park is fun! I can fly there.“
“Okay, but you gotta give momma like 10 minutes to get ready. You need to go get dressed to.“ She said and he nodded quickly, pushing away from her so that he was flying in the air at eye level of her. She gave him a playful look before using her hand to flick in the direction of his room. The little boy giggled as he flew to his room.
Jiko went into the bathroom and got ready for the day. She sprayed dry shampoo in her hair, it was significantly shorter than it was when she was with Keigo. Back then, she had hair that landed at her mid back. Now, her hair was kept into a messy pixie cut. Being a full-time single mom, she didn’t have a lot of time to worry about stuff like her hair so she just cut it off. Jiko brushed her teeth quickly and then changed her clothes so that she didn‘t look like she had just woken up.
By the time that she was ready, Youta had been struggling to put his shoes on. Jiko chuckled as she helped him slip his shoes on and tie them. Soon after gathering their belongs, the two of them started to head towards the park. Jiko always felt a little weird about taking Youta to the park because she was afraid that people would stare and talk about how much he resembled Hawks. Luckily though, most people didn’t give him a second look. She assumed that in a world full of people with different quirks, he didn‘t stand out too much.
Once they reached the park, they arrived at a little area that was far enough away from the main section of the park. This is where they normally went because Youta always wants to fly around but Jiko didn‘t like him flying around a bunch of strangers. So here, in their little safe haven they had found, Youta could fly as much as he wanted. And he did.
Jiko took a seat on a tree stump a few feet away from Youta. He looked at his mother as if asking permission to fly, and she just nodded her head. Seconds passed before Youta was in the air, flying around the trees. He never got out of his mothers sight, that being one of her few rules. He could fly when they were here but he had to stay within a specific distance that she could see. He never broke the rules.
They must have spent the next couple of hours here, Youta flying around high and Jiko just watching him. She took photos of him every once in a while so that she could remember all of these moments with him.
“Okay buddy, lets go.“ She called out, and Youta nodded his head. He turned towards his mom and started flying straight towards her. She laughed as she opened her arms. Youta flew straight into her arms and she carried him out of the little meadow they were in. They walked back home, stopping for some snacks on their way back to the apartment.
When they arrived back at the apartment, Youta was quick to take his shoes off and jump on the couch. He grabbed the tv remote and turned it, checking the news station to see if there was any coverage of heroes. Jiko rolled her eyes slightly as she started to look through her cabinets to start looking for something to actually make for dinner.
She was distracted as her phone buzzed. She grabbed it and opened the text message she had gotten. It was from her boss. While she may have money coming in from the commission, she still had a job to make sure that they always had enough money and to keep suspicion off them. It was just a little bartending job that she didn‘t mind too much, but it always sucked when she had to leave Youta.
She had grown closer to the old couple across the hall. Youta called them his grandparents and they gladly accepted. They had never been able to have children so they took Jiko and Youta under the wing like they were their child and grandchild.
“Wanna go to Nanas for a little?“ She asked and Youta jumped up.
“YES!“ He screamed. She laughed and rolled her eyes.
“Okay, go get packed. I don't know exactly what time I‘ll be okay tonight.”
It took the small boy less than a minute to jump from the couch and run to his room. Jiko walked to her room and got dressed in her bartending outfit. It was just a pair of shorts and a black button up top. She gathered all of the things that she would need for work and met her son in the living room.
“Ready?“ She asked and he nodded his head furiously as he ran towards the door. He swung it open and was across the hall in a matter of second. Jiko laughed quietly as she followed behind him, shutting and locking their apartment. By the time she had done all of that, Mei had already scooped Youta up in her arms and was placing a kiss on his cheek.
“Have to work?“ Mei asked, and Jiko nodded her head.
“I‘m sorry its such short notice.“ She rubbed the back of her neck.
“Nonsense! Any excuse to spend time with my grandson is an excuse well spent.“ She said happily and Jiko nodded.
“I‘ll see you later, Youta.“ Jiko said, leaning forward and kissing her sons head. He smiled and waved at her.
“Bye momma!“ He said as Mei stepped back into her apartment and shut the door.
--
It took two trains to get to the district that she needed to be in. It wasn‘t exactly a long commute, but she always left early so that she could enjoy her walk to the station and then to work. She had her headphones in as she walked, taking in the scenery of the town she lived in. Having lived here for four years now, she should be tired of seeing it. But she never was. She thought it was the most beautiful place she had ever seen.
She arrived at her job a little before her shift. She was always early. That was something she had picked up from Hawks in their time together. She used to be late to everything, but Keigo's time was always limited so she always got their early to make sure she had enough time to spend with him.
“Hey, Jiko!“ One of her coworkers called out. His name was Haruto and he was one of Jikos few actual friends.
“Hey, Haruto.“ She smiled.
“You work tonight?”
“Obviously.“
Haruto rolled his eyes as he walked over, throwing his arm over her shoulders. He pulled her close into his arms and she gave him a small hug. Jiko had only been one for physical contact when it came to two people and they were her son and Keigo.
“We’ll have fun tonight. There’s some sort of pro hero party here tonight. So get ready for a long one!“ Haruto shouted, fist pumping the air. “Maybe I‘ll meet Edgeshot tonight!”
“I have to get someone's autograph for Youta. If he found out I was in the same building as a pro hero and didn’t at least try to get an autograph, he might just go live with Mei.“ Jiko chuckled.
“I‘ll try to get some for him too!” Haruto said happily before he turned on his heel, “ I have to get some stuff ready for prep. When you clock in, come find me and we will figure out what you need to do to get prepped!“
Jiko nodded her head as she went into the break room in the back, sitting down for a few minutes before clocking in. She scrolled through her phone, scrolling through random socials as she waited. As she scrolled, she came across an article that was written about the party that was happening tonight. Apparently it was exclusive. Agency's had bought the place out for the night and people wouldn‘t be allowed unless they were a hero from an agency or a plus one for the heroes.
At least that meant that the bouncers aren't going to have pull crazed fans off of the heroes every five minutes. That's happened here before and it wasn‘t a pretty sight. Jiko sighed quietly as she locked her phone and slid it into her short pockets. She clocked in and got to work preparing for the night.
A couple of hours passed and people started to show up. Jiko recognized a few heroes from watching the news religiously with her son. She had started to get drinks for heroes such as Edgeshot and Best Jeanist, smiling at them and being as friendly as she could. Of course, due to the large hero present inside the club, paparazzi had already started to form outside. Jiko sighed. She hated nights like this. Part of her moving away was keeping a low profile and having photos taken all night meant that she had to avoid them to the best of her ability.
Haruto poked his head around the corner, shouting an order of drink to Jiko. She nodded quickly as she started to pour all of the different shots that had been ordered. She placed them neatly on the tray that Haruto had called out. In exchange for the drink, Haruto slid an autograph from Best Jeanist to her.
“I don’t know how much Youta likes Best Jeanist, but I managed to grab this!” He said happily, and Jiko beamed at him.
“He loves all heroes.” She shouted over the loud music, ”Any autograph will be enough to make him lose his mind.”
Haruto nodded, turning on his heel to go give out the drinks she had just whipped up. Jiko quickly returned to her place, making drinks and handing them out for the night. It wasn’t until about thirty minutes later that someone squeal and Jiko looked up to see none other than All Might, smiling down at her.
“Holy shit.” Jiko said said, causing a large laugh to escape from his lips.
“It is I! All Might! I assume you’re a fan?” He asked, leaning forward. His elbow hit the bar top and he put his head in his hand.
“No- Well, yes, but I said holy shit because you’re my sons favorite hero and he might die if knew I was this close to you.” She chuckled, and All Might also let a small laugh pass his lips.
“Well! We can’t have that can we?”
“What do you mean?” She said, tilting her head.
“Let's take a video for your little boy! And I will personally sign something for him!” He said with a large smile and Jiko just stared at him for a second before she whipped her phone out. She turned around and held the phone up.
“What’s his name?”
“Youta.” She said before she hit record.
“Hi Young Youta! Your mom told me that you're a fan! Follow your dreams and don’t give up, Plus Ultra! Oh, and listen to your mother! Eat your vegetables!” All Might said, his smile large and he threw up a thumbs up towards the camera before she stopped record.
Jiko turned back around and watched the video quickly, chuckling to herself. ”He’s going to lose his mind. Thank you.” She said as she glanced up at him. He threw up a thumbs up, still smiling.
“All in a days work! Now, let me get...” He said, ordering a drink. Jiko nodded, quickly making the drink for him and handing it off. A few minutes after that drink was handed off, another squeal caught Jiko’s attention but what came next caught her off guard.
“Hawks!” Someone screamed and Jiko felt her blood go cold. Of course he was going to be here tonight, he's a pro hero and this event is for pro heroes. She glanced up, seeing his large red wings extend through the door way. Attached to his hip was his girlfriend. She was wearing a skin tight black dress, hair done up, makeup making her look even more beautiful (If that was possible). Keigo was wearing a pair of blue jeans, they had holes in them around the knees. A black button up shirt with a few buttons undone at the very top of it to expose a little bit of his chest.
Jiko felt her breath catch as she quickly turned around and squeezed through the few other bartenders that were behind the bar. She excused herself to the back, running to the break room. She shut the door behind her as she fell into the chair in the room. She was wheezing, attempting to catch her breath.
What was she supposed to do? She can’t just not do her job but she couldn’t risk Keigo seeing and recongize her. She didn’t want him to. Her life with her son was so good and she didn’t want to have to explain to Keigo that she took money to walk away from him with their child.
It was in this moment that Jikos quirk activated and her hands instantly went to her head. Suddenly she was able to hear every persons thought within the building and she could feel what most of them were feeling. Tears started to pour out of her eyes as she curled up in the chair, shaking her head, trying to turn off her quirk.
Jiko’s quirk was that she was able to change the way people felt and change the train of thought that they were currently thinking. But doing this, she felt everything that they felt. When she got into situations that were overwhelming, her quirk would activate on its own and she wasn’t able to turn it off until she was no longer panicking.
The only person in her life who had ever been able to calm her down was Keigo. He was able to wrap his wings around and whisper gentle words to her until she was grounded again. This was one of the first times in years that she had had a full-blown episode like this and even though the only person who could help her was in the building, she couldn’t go to him and ask for help.
The break room door opened and Haruto stuck his head in long enough to see Jiko in her weakened state. He instantly opened the door long enough to slide into the break room before he shut and closed the door behind him.
“Hey, hey, hey, what's wrong?” He asked as he crouched down beside her.
“I can f-feel everything.” She stuttered out, unable to move her hands from her head.
“What can I do to help?”
“D-don't.. don't know.” She mumbled, starting to rock slightly as she tried to get herself under control.
“Hey, you’re okay. Whatever caused this can’t hurt you, okay? I won’t let it.” Haruto said as he hesitantly wrapped his arms around Jiko. She leaned into the embrace, her head resting against Haruto’s shoulder.
“Youta... Youta’s father is here.” She mumbled quietly and a quiet gasp came from Haruto.
“His father is a pro?” Haruto said, slightly shocked. Jiko couldn't find the words so she just nodded her head slowly. ”Who? Does he know?”
Jiko knew that she had made a mistake in telling Haruto because she didn’t want anyone to know. But she wasn’t exactly in the right head space to be making rational descisions.
“I can’t tell you who. He doesn’t know.” She whispered, the voice around her slowly dimming. “I don’t want him to take Youta away from me.”
“Well, firstly, he couldn’t just take him.” Haruto said, pulling back as Jikos words steadied themself out. Haruto knew that Jiko didn’t like to touch for long periods of time but he had figured that this was a special occasion.
“I know.” Jiko said, the voices finally subsiding in her head. ”But that doesn’t stop it from being one of the biggest fears I have in life. That he’s going to find out about Youta and he's going to take him away from me.”
“Well, you’re one of the best mothers I have ever met. You bust your ass for your son and I don’t think that anyone would want to separate you and Youta if they spent even five minutes with the two of you.” Haruto smiled and Jiko couldn’t help herself as she reached out and hugged her friend again.
“Thank you.” She said quietly.
“I’m just telling you the truth, Ji.” He said smiling. ”Do you think you can go back out on the floor? You can always come back here if you start feeling overwhelmed again.”
“Okay.” Jiko nodded. Haruto helped pull her to her feet and he opened the break room door for her.
“Just keep your head down, don’t talk to him if you can avoid it.” Haruto said as he pushed Jiko back out the door. She nodded to herself as she went back behind the bar and started to make up more drinks over the next hour or so. She would glance around the room to see if she saw him coming towards the bar but as far as she could tell, he was across the room and too busy sucking face with his girlfriend.
Jiko wouldn’t lie and say that seeing Keigo making out with his girlfriend didn't hurt a little bit. She had never seen him in person with another girl, considering they were each other's only friends growing up. Jiko had just always assumed that her and Keigo would grow old together. She had never had the thought of him being with anyone else because she was just used to...them.
The night started to come to an end, heroes were leaving and so were their guests. It was down to maybe the last ten people left in the bar when Jiko started to work on closing the bar down. She was taking dishes back to the dish room, cleaning up liquor bottles and putting them back into their places. She started to wipe down the bar in places that people weren’t sitting. Anything to make it so she could go home to her Youta.
Maybe four guests were left in the building at this point, Jiko wasn’t paying much attention to the actual guests, just listening to her coworkers count down how many they saw. The bar was more or less closed down when a voice pulled Jiko from the glass she was wiping out.
“Can I get a scotch?” An all too familiar voice asked and Jiko froze on the spot. The glass nearly slipped from her hands before she quickly turned around so that her back was facing Keigo. Maybe he hadn’t noticed her face, maybe he was too drunk to recognize her. All that matters was that she continued breathing and not letting herself get overwhelmed.
She grabbed a bottle off the counter in front of her and poured a small glass of scotch. With her head still down, she turned around and slid the drink across the bar.
“This is the only one I can give you, the bar is closed now.” Jiko said, trying to make her voice sound a little deeper so that he wouldn’t recognize her voice.
“Alright.” Keigo said softly and Jiko could feel his eyes on her. ”You know, you remind me of someone.”
“Really?” Jiko said.
“Yeah, I swear I know you from somewhere.”
“Don’t know where that could be. I’ve never met you before.” She said, turning away from him again to pretend to clean the counter behind her. The two of them sat in silence for a while before Haruto stuck his head out from the back.
“Jiko! Are we good to shut down?” He called out and Jiko froze in place. Hawks nearly choked on his drink after hearing the name called out.
“Jiko?” Keigo said quietly but by the time he had gotten her name out, she was already in the back of the restaurant.

PROLOGUE
“Keigo!” Jiko shouted, laughing as her feet were swiped off the ground and she was in the arms of her best friend. His bright red wings were full extended behind him as he took a run start, his wings lifting the two of them off of the ground. Jiko slapped his shoulder multiple times, screaming to put her down by all Hawks did was laugh and continue to fly into the air.
“Put me down!” She shouted as they got further into the air.
“Oh, you want me to put you down here? Now? Cause I can just let you go” He says with a smirk. Jiko looks down and begins to furiously start shaking her head.
“Never mind!” She says, wrapping her arms around his neck. He laughed quietly as he adjusted her in his arms.
“I love being up this high” He says quietly ”It’s peaceful.”
“I hate it. I am not meant for flying.” Jiko shook her head, but glanced at the view around her. “it is beautiful though”
“Not as beautiful as you!” Hawks said and Jiko fake gagged
“Gross! Don’t be all lovey dovey.” She said and Keigo laughed, pressing a gentle kiss to her temple which caused Jiko to flail around a little bit, shouting ew at the top of her lungs.
The two of them flew around for a little while longer, despite Jiko saying she wanted to land. Keigo knew her well enough to know that she would enjoy the time she didn't have to spend at home. He flew them around in a large circle before landing in the same field the started in. They were surrounded by big trees and tons of flowers. The grass was overgrown, coming up to the pairs mid legs.
“I know that you say that you hate flying, but I actually think that you love it.” Keigo said with a smirk. Jiko rolled her eyes as she looked up at him, him standing a few inches taller than she was.
“I don’t love flying but I do enjoy the time I get to spend with you.” She said happily, and Keigo patted the top of her head.
“I know, Dove.” He said softly, ruffling her hair.
“SO!” She said, grabbing the hand that was currently atop her head. ”There’s a party tonight and I want to go, but I only want to go if you’ll go with me!”
Keigo raised an eyebrow, ”Why do I have to go?”
“Because I will feel more safe and free if you go with me.”
“Don’t you have a curfew?” Keigo questioned
“So do you! Rules are meant to be broken! Please!” Jiko said, looking up at the man with puppy dog eyes. Keigo put his hand on the back of his neck, rubbing it slightly.
“I don't know Jiko, the commission isn’t exactly a place that I can just not follow their rules.”
“Just this once. I want people to know that I didn’t just make you up!”
“Oh, so you talk about me?” He said with a smirk as he wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her body close against his. A blush formed on Jiko’s face as she stared at his chest, not wanting to meet his eye line.
“Well, of course I do.” She said quietly, ”You’re my best friend.”
Keigo couldn’t help the smile that traveled across his face as he leaned down, pressing a kiss against the top of her head. Jiko’s arms wrapped Keigo’s middle, melting into him. The two stood there like this for a few minutes, Keigo’s wing surrounding them so that it felt like they were the only two in the world.
“Fine.” Keigo said and Jiko’s head shot up, making eye contact with him.
“Really?!” She said and he just nodded his head. This resulted in a small squeal from Jiko, followed by her leaning up and kissing his cheek. ”Thank you! Thank you!”
“Don’t say thank you too much, I might change my mind” He winked, and Jiko just rolled her eyes.
“You wouldn’t dare.” She said, and he just smiled. They stood in this hug for a few more minutes before Jiko pulled away, but she grabbed his hand in hers as she moved. She started to walk towards the exit of the little field they were in, their little haven as they called it.
Honestly, neither Keigo or Jiko had good home lives. Jikos’ parents loathed her, only giving her the bare necessities to survive. And then Keigo was raised by the Hero Public Safety Commision from a young age because they saw that he had potential. The two of them shouldn’t have even been friends, in all honesty. They came from two completely different lives but somehow, ended up meeting in a little coffee shop when they were both around 13. They had been best friends since then.
As they reached where the trail connected to the main road, Jiko let go of Keigo’s hand and turned to him. ”Okay, I will text you the address when I get home. Meet me there at 9, okay?”
Keigo nodded head, ”Okay, dove.” He said as he leaned down, pressing another kiss to her forehead but she quickly pulled back.
“Ah! Not in public, remember? I don’t want my family to skin me alive” She said softly and he nodded his head.
“I know but I just can’t help it, you know how much I looove kissing your head.” He said, laughing as he wrapped his wings around the two of them, pulling him close for one last forehead kiss. After that, he opened up his wings and pushed her out of his grasp. ”I will see you later!”
--
The two of them traveled home separately, arriving home at completely different times. Jiko arrived home first and hurried up the stairs to her room, where she quickly shut and locked the door. Her parents weren’t home and wouldn’t be for a few more days, but Jiko was too used to having to lock her family out of her room.
Jiko pulled out her phone to see a few texts from Keigo, he must have sent them on his way back to the commission.
Bird for brains - what is the address of the place? Bird for brains – helllloooo jikkkoooooo
Jiko - i just got home, chill
After that response, Jiko texted him the address of the party that they would attend. She then processed to get ready. She did her makeup so that her dark brown eyes popped, pairing it with a dark red lip gloss. She quickly changed into a pair of black shorts and an off the shoulder black top that had All Mights face on it. Jiko wouldn’t admit it out loud, but she was huge fan of pro heroes. One of her goals in life used to be to be a pro hero, but things change.
About an hour later, she headed towards the address that she had previously sent to Hawks. A water bottle swung by her side but it was full of alcohol that she had stolen from her families stash. The prop to having drunks for parents meant that they wouldn’t notice if some was missing from time to time. As she walked, she took a few swings every once in a while, pre gaming so she knew she would have a good night tonight.
She knew she would be having fun regardless because she actually convinced Keigo to come with her, so she would at least have one person to talk to for the rest of the night.
“Jiko!” A voice called from above and as she glanced up, she saw a pair of red wings gliding down towards her, a familiar face smiling at her. Keigo landed beside her, still smiling.
“How did you know where I was?” She laughed and Keigo shrugged.
“I flew to your house and then followed the route I figured you would take. Wasn’t hard” He said, shrugging.
Jiko laughed as she wrapped her arm around Keigo's waist. He was wearing a tight black shirt and pair of jeans, but even in just this casual wear, he was still one of the prettiest people Jiko had ever seen.
“Are you ready for a fun night?” She said, propping her chin on his chest as she looked up at him. Keigo nodded his head, resting his forehead against hers.
“As long as I get to spend time with you, of course I am.” He smiled.
To anyone passing by, it would have looked as if the two of them were dating. They were a little too close for comfort by most peoples standards, but that's just the way they had always been. Playfully flirting had been their favorite thing to do since they were younger. Honestly, they had never even shared an actual kiss, just kissing each other's face.
Jiko pulled away from Keigo, grabbing his hand and wrapping their fingers together. The two of them walked hand in hand, sharing the bottle of liquor that Jiko had as they did. They chatted about random things until they arrived at the location. Jiko dropped her hand from his and smiled.
“Let's Party!” She said, already slightly tipsy. Keigo laughed, throwing his arms up in excitement with her.
“Let’s do this!” He shouted back. The two shared some laughs before they entered the house, the music already blaring. Jiko was greeted by a few classmates here and there. Girls came up to Keigo, already trying to flirt with him as soon as they got there. Keigo just shrugged it off and continued going, following after Jiko.
While Jiko made not have been aware of it at the time, Keigo was head over heels in love with her and had been for so long. He didn’t know how to tell her and the relationship that the two had was already so flirty that he wasn't surprised that she didn’t pick up on the fact that he had real feelings for her. So he just stuck with being her best friend, afraid that telling her would ruin the dynamtic that the two had.
-
The night went by quickly. Jiko and Keigo had been throwing back drinks since they got here, and it had been around 2 or 3 hours since they arrived. Needless to say, both of them were fairy drunk. They had made themselves into the kitchen where it was a little quieter. Jiko may have loved to party, but she got overwhelmed quickly in situations where there was a lot of noise and Keigo knew that, so he did his best to remove her from overwhelming situations as often as he could.
“Thanks Keigo.” Jiko said, sliding herself up onto the counter by the sink. She sat there as Keigo filled up a cup of water for the both of them to share.
“Of course. I need it too.” He said, his words slurring slightly as he laughed. He turned to her and handed her the cup of water, watching as she carefully raised the cup and took a small sip. Jiko extended the cup to him, and she also watched as he took a drink. He put the drink on the counter beside and moved so that he was standing in between Jiko's legs, resting his head against hers.
“I think we need to go home soon, I can’t be out too long without the commission noticing I’m gone.” He said. Jiko nodded her head as she wrapped her arms around his neck. The two of their eyes moved up slowly so that they were making eye contact.
“I know, but I just want a few more minutes with you.” Jiko said quietly, Keigo could feel her warm breaths against his face, the two of them never breaking eye contact. His hands found their way to Jikos waist, holding her gently.
“Wanna know something?” Keigo said, the alcohol bravery kicking in.
“Hm?” Jiko said quietly, still looking into his eyes.
“I love you.” He said quietly, cause a small smile to spread across her lips.
“I love you too, dork.” Jiko laughed, but Keigo didn’t laugh back. Instead, he stood their in silence for a few seconds, face unreadable.
“No, Jiko. I love you. Like I love you love you.” Keigo said softly. ”I think I always have.”
Jiko stared at him, mouth slightly agape. They were both pretty drunk, so she figured that they both wouldn’t remember this in the morning. In a split second, Jiko connected their lips. Keigo was slightly taken aback, but his lips quickly began to move against hers. Jiko pulled herself closer to him, wrapping her legs around his waist. Keigo’s arm went instinctively behind her back, pulling her as close as he could.
It took a few minutes before someone opened the kitchen door, startling the two of them apart. Whoever it was groaned as they saw the scene in front of them, shouting ”Get a room!” at them. Jiko looked up at Keigo, still pressed against him, placing small kisses along his jawline and neck.
“My parent aren’t home. No chance of anyone being there tonight.” She whispered into her ear, and in his drunken state, Keigo pulled her as close as he could, lifting her off of the counter. Jiko let out a small squeal, holding on for dear life as Keigo walked to the back door that was only a few feet from them. He placed Jiko down for only a few seconds, long enough to pick her up bridal style.
“You better hold on tight, dove.” He said, before shooting off into the air. A small squeal escaped Jiko’s lips, but she just wrapped her arms tightly around Keigo’s neck. As he flew them to her house, Jiko continued to place kisses against Keigo's neck.
They must have gotten there in record time. Keigo slung Jiko’s window open from the outside like a pro, which he might has well have been since he had done it so many times before. He tossed Jiko on the bed, she landed with a thump but a small giggle erupted from her as he crawled over top of her, capturing her lips in his again.
Keigo placed his hand on her hip, sliding his hand slowly up under her shirt. Her hands clawed at his shirt, begging for him to take it off. He quickly did as she wanted, pulling his shirt off but also taking hers off directly after he took his off. Their lips quickly reconnected, and the rest was history. Clothes thrown every which way, quiet ‘I love you’s’ shared as they spent this night together.
Afterwards, Jiko curled up Keigo’s arm. He was laying on his side, his wings slightly extended behind so he could lay comfortably. Jiko looked up at him, gently caressing the side of his face.
“I hope I don’t forget this in the morning.” She said softly. Keigo leaned his head down, pressing his forehead against hers.
“Me too.” He said softly, ”I love you, so much Jiko.“
“I love you too.” She whispered, ”You have to leave soon, don’t you?”
Keigo sighed, nodding his head. ”I‘m sorry, dove,“ he mumbled “I don’t want to leave you.”
“I know. But I don't want you to get in trouble.” She smiled, leaning up and kissing him yet against. Keigo caught her lips quickly, savoring every second of it. After that, he got up and started to get dress. Jiko pulled her blanket up over her, watching his every move. His wings were tucked tightly into himself so that he didn’t end up bumping into anything in her room.
Once he was ready, he came and sat back down on her bed for a moment. A small kissed was pressed against her forehead, and a gentle ‘i love you’ was murmured. After that, he went out the window and was gone, leaving Jiko alone, with only her thoughts.
--
Jiko must have fallen asleep at some point, because the next thing she remembers is waking up with a pounding headache. The sun hurt, so she tried to keep her eyes closed as long as she could, until she heard her phone ding. She groaned loudly, sitting up slowly in her bed, only to realize she was completely naked.
A small squeal escaped her lips. She didn’t sleep naked, which meant something had to have happened last night that she can’t quite remembered. She groaned loudly as she reached for her phone, smiling slightly as she saw a text from Keigo.
Bird for Brains - Good morning! How are you feeling?
Jiko - bad, head hurts
Bird for Brains - I figured as much. Do you need me to bring you anything?
Jiko - No, I have medicine in my desk. I’ll be okay.
Bird for Brains – Ok... so what do you remember about last night?
Jiko – Not much, why?
Bird for Brains - .... No reason.
Jiko tilted her head at her phone. Keigo was acting weird. He never asked her questions if they didn't have a purpose, even something as simple as what she remembered the night before. She leaned back against her pillows, trying to figure out what would be causing him to act weird. And then she remembered that was currently naked.
Jiko – Oh my god, did i hook up with someone?
Bird for Brains - Why do you ask?
Jiko - Just answer the questions!
A few minutes passed and Keigo didn't answer. Jiko was trying to rack her brains for the answer when suddenly, all of last nights events came flooding back in. The kisses, the ’i love you’ and the night she had spent with her best friend. It caused a small ball of panic to swell up inside of her.
Jiko – Keigo answer me. Did we sleep together last night? Did we use protection? Oh my god, is our friendship ruined?
Bird for Brains - I think we did. And no, our friendship isn't ruined. I do think we need to talk though.
Jiko - come over.
After she sent that text, Jiko grabbed her shirt from the floor and got dressed quickly in that and a pair of Keigo's shorts he had left her once. She went into the bathroom and brushed her teeth, staring at herself in the mirror for a few minutes. She was remembering all the places that Keigo touched on her body last night, running her own hand across them.
A knock at her window broke her train of thoughts and when she re-entered her room, Keigo was standing there in all his glory. He smiled at her, instantly pulling her into a hug. Jiko sighed happily, melting into her best friend. A small kiss was placed to the top of her head before she was lifted and carried to her own bed. Keigo sat her down before sitting a few feet away from her.
“So.” Keigo said quietly.
“So.” Jiko Repeated
“Last night,” he started, ”I meant what I said. I love you Jiko, and I think I always have.”
Jiko stared at Keigo for a few minutes, taking in the curve of his face. ”I love you too, Keigo.” She said softly.
“Really?”
“Really.”
“Okay... what does that mean for us?” Keigo asked, kicking his shoes off as he moved higher up on her bed so that he was sitting directly beside her.
“I don’t know.” Jiko responded honestly, ”My parents don’t like you. Hell, they barely like me. And I don’t want to give them another reason why they don’t like letting you come over.”
“I get that..”
“And you’ve said that the commission is really strict about you dating, hell, they don’t even want us to be friends.”
“Yeah...” Keigo trailed off, sighing.
“So, I think that for now, nothing changes. We’re still just Jiko and Keigo, best friends.” Jiko said, glancing up at him.
“I agree... but can I still kiss you?” Keigo asked, placing his hand against her face. A small giggle escaped her lips as she nodded.
“Added perk.” She said as she leaned up, connecting their lips.
And that was how they spent the next couple of weeks. Stealing kisses in between their normally scheduled hang outs. Their little meadow becoming their safe haven again once Jiko’s parents returned. They spent nearly every second they could together, laughing and just enjoying each other's company.
-
About three weeks had passed since that drunken night they had spent together, and Jiko woke up early in the morning with an overwhelming urge to throw up. She rushed to her bathroom and emptied the contents of her stomach into her toilet bowl. It had been a long time since she had thrown up, so it left her feeling even worse than she did when she woke up.
Jiko slid down beside the toilet, pulling her phone off the ground and opening the text messages between Keigo and herself. She texted him to let him know that she wasn’t feeling well and that she might have to cancel their plans for the day. This seemed to worry Keigo because he was calling her within moments of her sending her texts.
“Hello?” Jiko said as she put her phone to her ear.
“Are you okay?” Keigo asked, a slight panic to his voice.
“Yeah, I just woke up and had to throw up. It might have been something I ate yesterday or something.” She said, and for a few moments Keigo was silent.
“I am probably making something out of nothing, but, when was your last period?” He asked, and Jiko thought about it for a minute.
“Uhh, last month, I think? Wait... no, its been over a month.” She said, shifting herself onto her knees. “What day did we sleep together?”
“I think it was the 6th.” Keigo answered, “Today is 27th.”
A few moments of silence passed before Jiko quietly whispered, “I’m late. I’ve never been late.”
Jiko’s response resulted in a few more minutes of silence from Keigo, but eventually he spoke up, ”You need to get a pregnancy test and take it. Today. I have training all day so I won’t be able to do it with you. But go.” He said, before the line abruptly hung up. Jiko looked at her phone, tears welling up in her eyes.
Almost immediately after getting off of the phone, Jiko stood up and turned on the shower. She needed to go to the store, and soon. She stripped down and stepped into the shower, letting the warm water fall over her body. Her hands slowly traveled to her stomach, gently carrassing it as she thought about the possibility of having a child growing inside of her. She couldn’t. She was only seventeen and Keigo had so much ahead of him. She couldn’t possibly ask him to give all of that up if she was pregnant.
After her shower, she got dressed and told her parents she was going to study with friends, but they didn't even answer her. She walked to the nearest store, walking around for a few moments to gather a few things that weren’t just a pregnancy test. A bag of chips, an eyeliner, a soda and pregnancy test. Jiko walked to the counter with her head down, the hood of jacket pulled up to cover most of eyes.
The cashier was a little old lady, kind and she didn’t judge her when she rang up the pregnancy test. She just kept smiling, asking Jiko about her day but avoiding bringing up the test. Jiko appreciated that more than this random woman could have ever know. She paid, leaving the change for the lady before she headed back to her home. But, she entered through her window so that her parents wouldn’t know she was there.
Jiko walked to her bathroom, locking the door behind her. She pulled the test out and put it on the sink in front of her, placing both her hands on the counter on either side of the test. She pushed her weight down on the counter, breathing heavily. She didn’t want to do this. But she had to.
Taking the test was the easy part, the waiting is what killed her. It took 5 minutes for this test to develop, but it felt like a life time. Checking every couple of seconds, getting upset when it had processed yet. Jiko passed around her bathroom, a million thoughts going through her head.
What would she do if she was pregnant? Her parents wouldn’t let her have an abortion, but they also wouldn’t ficially support her and the child. Would her and Keigo be parents? Would Keigo even want to be part of the baby’s life? Of course he would, he loved Jiko and wouldn’t leave her to do that on her own, would he? But then his career he had been working so hard for would be put on pause and Jiko couldn’t possibly ask that of him.
She must of walked around thinking about it for an extra 5 minutes before she realized the test was probably done. She walked over to it and grabbed it carefully. Her entire arm was shaking as she slowly flipped it over. Two pink lines stared back at her. Positive. She was pregnant.
Tears instantly welled up in her eyes as she fell to her knees in the bathroom. Her free hand went to her mouth to muffle the sobs that were coming out of it. She placed the test on her lap, staring at it for what felt like an eternity as tears continued to fall. What was she going to do? She couldn’t be a mom. She didn’t know what it meant to be a mom. Her mom had never been one and Jiko felt like she was going to disappoint her own kid as much as her mom had done to her.
Keigo. Suddenly Jikos mind went back to Keigo and how she had to call him, had to tell him. Her shaky hands grabbed her phone and dialed his number. It took 3 rings before he picked up.
“Hello? Jiko?” He said, and another sob escaped her throat.
“Hi.” She said quietly.
“Oh god.” He said, putting two and two together from how distraught Jiko was, ”Are you pregnant?” he whispered and that caused another small cry to come from Jiko.
“Yeah.” She said softly, tears still falling from her face. Keigo cursed on the other line. ”I don’t know what to do Keigo.” She whispered.
“Me either. But I have to tell the commission, and then I’ll be over, okay?” Keigo said, and Jiko nodded, as if he could see her. The other line went dead and Jiko was just left alone, with only her thoughts.
--
A couple of hours had passed, Jiko was now laying in her bed with her shirt pulled up slightly so that her stomach was exposed. She rubbed along the bottom of it slowly, unable to believe that there was a person growing inside of her.
“I wonder what you’ll be like.” She said quietly to her stomach, ”Will you be like Keigo? Have wings? Will you be like me? Normalish?”
“I wonder too.” Said a voice from the window and Jiko looked up, making eye contact with Keigo. He crawled in through the window before making himself comfortable on the bed next to her. It took seconds for Jiko to wrap her arms tightly around Keigo's neck, the tears starting to flow again.
“What are we going to do?” She said quietly and Keigo sighed.
“I don’t know. The commission Isn't happy. I’m not even supposed to be here right now.” He said as Jiko laid back to where she was. Keigo laid his head in her lap, staring up at her. Her hand instantly window to his head, fingers running through his hair. Gently, Keigo reached up and touched Jiko’s stomach, rubbing a small circle on it.
“I don’t know how to tell my family.” Jiko sighed, ”My parents might kill me.” She said, and Keigo nodded.
“Yeah, they might kill both of us.” He said, a small laugh following it.”I can’t believe there's a little human in here.” Keigo leaned into her stomach, giving it the tiniest of a kiss.
“It isn’t a human yet. It’s just a bunch of little cells right now.” Jiko said, and Keigo nodded.
“I know. I just meant in the long run. I can’t believe we’re going to have a kid.”
“Is that what you want?” Jiko said, adjusting herself slightly so she could look him in the eyes. ”To have a kid, with me?”
“I want to spend every moment of every day with you. I want you to be mine, forever. I figured eventually we would have kids, but it came sooner than I thought it would.” Keigo said softly, still meeting your eyes. ”I don’t know how to be a dad though. Like, I remember my old man if I think hard enough, but the only memories I have start when I joined the commission.”
“I get that. I don't know how to be a mom. You’ve met my mom, she’s not exactly role model material.”
“We’ll figure it out as we go. It can’t be that hard right? As long as we love them.” Keigo said, rubbing Jiko’s stomach yet again. The two of them spent a couple of hours talking about names the liked, where they would live once it was born, how they would tell Jikos parents together, all the things that were bothering Jiko only earlier today. Keigo had an answer for everything.
He left eventually, promising her that he would be back tomorrow and they would tell her parents together. He told her he loved her, kissed her stomach goodbye and told it that he loved it. But tomorrow never came for them.
The next morning, Jiko awoke to a call from a number that she didn’t recongize, but she answered it anyways.
“Hello?” She said sleepily.
“Hello, is this Miss Sako?” A voice asked. It wasn’t a voice that Jiko recognized.
“Yes, who is this?” She said, adjusting herself in the bed.
“I work for the Hero Public Service Commission. I am calling on behalf of Mr. Takami. As you know, Takami has a promising future as a hero and this little... issue that has arisen shouldn’t be the reason he isn’t able to do what he has been training for nearly his entire life.” The worker said, and Jiko was shocked into silence.
“What exactly are you asking me to do? Get rid of it? Cause I won’t be able to do that.” She said softly.
“No, that’s not what we want. We are prepared to keep a fund of money that will be distrupited over a month by month bases until the child is 18 years old. It will cover all of their fee, school, clothing, food, and an apartment for you if you chose it. But, the stipulation is that you can no longer have contact with Takami, and it cannot be released that it is his child. Takami has worked too hard for his career to go down the drain over a little mistake he made.” The word mistake cause Jiko to wince, she obviously didn’t plan this pregnancy, but she hardly thought it was a mistake.
“Does Keigo know about this?” She asked softly.
“No, he doesn't.”
“How would we even be able to go about this? I don’t think that Keigo is going to just... let me disappear with his child.”
“We will tell him that you lost it and that your parents made you move. That he can no longer have any contact with you.” The worker said. Jiko sighed heavily. This was an impossible decision that she was having to make. Keigo had worked his entire life to be a hero, it was all he had ever done. But he seemed so excited yesterday about the idea of having a child with her. Maybe it was just the excitement of the moment. He wasn’t thinking clearly when he told her that he wanted to be with her forever.
But could she raise a child by herself? The commission would be paying for everything, so that would take a level of stress off of her. But she still didn’t know.
“Are you still there, Ms. Sako?”
“Yes. I’m just thinking.” She said quietly.
“Well we need to know soon. We have to get the plan rolling and get you out of the town so that he doesn’t have contact with you anymore.” The worker said, and Jiko sighed. Keigo deserved to have all this his hard work be worth something. He deserved to be the hero he had always been training to be.
“Alright. What do I have to do?” You say quietly.
“We’re going to set up a fake doctors appointment where the doctor will tell Keigo that you have miscarried. Then, after that, you will need to say goodbye to him. We will tell you the location of your new apartment shortly.”
“Okay.” She whispered as she hung up.
--
Everything went according to plan. Jiko told her parents that she was pregnant, not telling them who the father was, but telling them that she would be moving out soon. After that, she headed to the fake doctors appointment where it was made to look as if she had been rushed here. After calling Keigo, he was there in a matter of minutes. He wrapped his hand tightly around Jiko’s hand, waiting for the test results to come back.
Of course, Jiko knew that nothing was wrong wth the baby. She knew that it was okay. But Keigo didn’t. So when the doctor came in the room and sat down, convincing telling the two of them that Jiko had miscarried, it felt like both of their worlds came crashing down. Keigo had tears streaming down his face, and Jiko couldn’t help but cry too. She didn’t want to hurt Keigo like this, but the commission had threatened to ruin Keigo if she didn’t.
The next couple of days were weird for the pair. Keigo wanted to be by Jikos side for every waking moment, but she kept telling him that she just wanted to be alone. She hated this. She didn’t want to hurt him. But she spent the next few days packing until she received another call from the commission. They told her that there would be a car to pick up her and her belongs there within the next hour. She didn’t even respond, just hung up and finished packing.
It would take a few trips to get all of her things, but the driver who arrived assured her that all of her belongs would make their way to her new apartment. Jiko just nodded, getting in the car and letting it take her where they had planned.
A little less than an hour later, they arrived in Musutafu. Jiko recognizes this place from when her parents brought her here when she was younger. She was okay with city, she figured it would help her blend in more into the crowd.
The driver pulled up in front of a little apartment complex, nothing too big and flashy, but it looked big enough for Jiko and the baby. She just nodded as she got out of the car, grabbing what belongs she could. The drive grabbed a few more of the boxes, helping her carrying everything up to her new apartment. It was a cute apartment, already mostly furnished.
The driver did a few trips of stuff for her before everything she had brought today was up here. He handed her a new phone and told her it was from the commission. She just nodded, thanked him for his help, and watched him leave.
Jiko sighed, checking the new phone she got, when she realized the date. She laughed quietly to herself, rubbing her stomach.
“Happy 18th birthday to me.” She said quietly before beginning to unpack.
---
It had been a few months since Jiko moved away. A few months since she had left home, since she had last seen Keigo, or Hawks as he was going by now. She had read that he was starting his own hero agency and she couldn’t help the happiness that came over her. This is what she had wanted. This is why she left, so that Keigo could live to his full potential.
She rubbed her stomach gently as she read the article. It was crazy what just a few months would do to someone who is pregnant. Her bump was visible, protruding from most of her shirts. It was to the point that Jiko was starting to have a hard time seeing her own feet. Every once in a while, she could feel the baby move and it honestly made everything so much more worth it. Feeling this living thing inside of her just made her fall more in love with every day.
Jiko had spent the majority of today finishing setting up the nursery, her neighbor having help put the crib together so she could finally finish decorating. But she had to put a pin in it because she had a doctors appointment that she had to be at. Today was the day that she would find out the gender of the baby, and she was excited.
Whenever Jiko went out, she always wore a hood of some kind so that she felt a little less recognizable. It’s not like she would have particularly stood out in a crowd, but it was better safe that sorry. She arrived at the appointment a little early, giving her time to sit in the waiting room before being called back. Her doctor was friendly, rarely seeming judging for the situation that Jiko was in.
The appointment went as normal, cold gel on the stomach, a few picture here and there before the doctor pointed on the screen and smiled.
“Congrats, it’s a boy.” She said happily and Jiko couldn’t help but smile down at her stomach. A boy. She was going to have a son. “Does his father happen to have a bird quirk? Wings, especially?” The doctor asked, and Jiko tilted her head.
“..Yes? Why?” She asked, and the doctor pointed on the screen to show that attached to the babies back were the smallest outline of wings, and Jiko couldn't help but roll her eyes. Of course her son would have inherited Hawks quirk. That was going to make it even more difficult for her to conceal her sons fathers identity.
“It’s like that new hero, Hawks? I think that his name?” The doctor said, and instantly Jiko replied.
“Never heard of him.”
---
When Jiko got home, she laid in her bed and scrolled through different apps, before there was a small kick in her stomach. She put her phone down and rubbed her stomach gently.
“Hey buddy.” She said softly. ”Is it play time?” She joked, but tears welled up in her eyes. She wasn’t exactly sure why. Maybe it was because she was having a boy, or maybe it was because he inherited Keigo's quirk, or maybe it’s because she knew that those two things together would have made Keigo the happiest man in the world. She spends too much time wondering if she made the right choice, but then she sees all of the accomplishments that Keigo is already having and she feels good about the choice. He couldn’t have done all of that if he was worried about a baby.
“We gotta start thinking of a name for you, buddy. Something that really describes you. And the hope that you give me to be better.” Jiko said quietly. “Youta? Maybe?” She said, shrugging slightly. “We’ll think on it. Got a few more months, yanno?”
It’s not like she expected her stomach to answer her, but sometimes the silence got to her. She hadn't spent much time completely alone in her life. Even when she was ‘alone’, she could still hear her family arguing downstairs so it never felt silent.
While Jiko may have been handling this arrangement okay, Keigo wasn’t. At least not at first. As far as he knew, Jiko and Keigo lost their child and then Jiko was forced to move away by her parents. Keigo spent the first month calling her phone that has been disconnected. The first two weeks, he went to her parents house and knocked, begging them to tell him where she was. But they always gave him the same answer.
“She’s gone. She isn’t coming back.”
Keigo just didn't know how to wrap his head around that. She was just gone. They had just taken her away from him. Jiko and Keigo had spent every day together for five years, and now she was just gone.
The months passed and Keigo was forced to get his head back into the hero game. The commission wasn’t happy with the slacking that had come from Keigo, but they did expect it after the plan went through. They let him mourn for a month before they forced him to get back into his training.
He opened his agency soon after his 18th birthday and all of his attention was put into making sure it was the best that it could be. He spent every day being a hero so that he had some sort of distraction from Jiko. And that's how the next few months go. Hero work, training, sleeping, eating. Soon enough, Keigo wasn’t thinking about Jiko nearly as much as he used to. She was on his mind in passing, but it was never anything more than wondering how she was doing.
-
Months passed, Jiko was in between eight and nine months pregnant and it was obviously at this point. Large round stomach that was hidden behind one of her new oversized shirt. Jiko never spent much time outside of her apartment, especially during her pregnancy because she was afraid of the judgement that she would receive if she did because she was such a young mother, and she was single.
She was standing in her kitchen making food when she felt a sharp pain in her stomach. The main was so intense that she had to take a second to lean over the counter, wincing. “Ahh.” She mumbled. After a minute, the pain subsided and she stood up.
“Today?“ She said, glancing down at her stomach. “Are we doing this today, Youta?“
Her response came in the answer of yet another contraction. She did the same thing, closing her eye and wincing before she nodded. As the pain subsided again, she grabbed the bag that she had left on the kitchen table in case she went into labor soon. She grabbed her cellphone off the counter and then waddled her way over to the little old lady who lived across from her.
She had become pretty good friends with the elderly couple across the hall and they had told her that she could come over and the husband would drive her to the hospital when she went into labor. And they held true to that. The moment Jiko said that she was in labor, the husband grabbed his keys and helped her down the stairs and into the car. He drove as fast as he could and got her there within ten minutes of them leaving.
Jiko smiled and thanked the man before she waddled into the hospital. As soon as she told them was in labor, the nurse grabbed a wheelchair and put her in it, wheeling her back to maternity. The nurses got Jiko comfortable, setting her with everything she would need. One of the nurses looked at Jiko with a smile.
“Will the father be here soon?”The nurse asked, and Jiko shook her head.
“No. He isn’t present.” The words were soft, and nurses face fell. After that, all the nurses left the room, and the doctor came in. She checked Jiko, saying that she was 7cm dilated at the time. Jiko just nodded as another contraction wracked her body.
Her hands went to her stomach and she gripped it in pain She let out a small puff of air as she tried to not focus on the pain. The doctor told her it wouldn‘t be much longer before he left Jiko with only her thoughts.
In between the contractions, she was on her phone, scrolling through the different news outlets. She may not have contact with Hawks, but she did keep up with the news so that she could make sure he was doing okay. One of the main headlines she saw was about how he taken down a bunch of villains, saving a bunch of lives. She couldn’t help the smile that traveled across her face, because this is exactly what Jiko had wanted for him. To be successful as a hero.
She may have been in hour for another two hours before she started pushing. The nurse who had asked about Keigo earlier took his place in holding Jikos‘ hand. Tears were streaming down Jikos face, it hurt so much and she didn‘t know if she would be able to make it through.
It wasn't until she heard the cry of her son that Jikos head fell back against the pillow for only a second until they placed her son on her stomach. The tears were streaming down her face as she reached down, touching his face gently.
“Oh, he's perfect.” She cried and the nurse nodded her head. The nurses took him away to get him cleaned up.
“Does he have a name?“ The nurse asked, and Jiko nodded.
“His name is Youta.“ Jiko said as she watched them clean him.
“Hope?“ The nurse asked before she nodded. “That‘s a beautiful name.“

After about an hour, they brought Youta to Jiko. The nurse placed him gently in her arms, and Jiko couldn‘t help the tears that welled up again. He was so perfect. She examined every inch of his face, smiling as she realized he had Keigo‘s noise, and the smallest peak of little wings popped out of his blanket. By this point, al the nurse had left the room so she was free to talk about Keigo without anyone hearing.
“You are so perfect, Youta,“ She whispered to her son, pressing a gentle kiss against his forehead. “You look just like Keigo.“
Maybe throughout her pregnancy she had hoped the he wouldn‘t look like Keigo. She was scared that people would be able to point him out easier but now, she didn‘t care. He was too perfect. She knew would do anything to protect him.
“I promise Youta, nothing will ever harm you.“
And she meant that.
