Filipinos are too affected by Dan Brown's depiction of Philippines in his new book, Inferno. A lot of Brown's descriptions are pretty much evident and I believe most of us see and/or experience some of it frequently. I guess some are really just too jingoistic that they can't admit the ugly side of the country.
