16. What’s a movie you didn’t expect to like but ended up loving?
This answer may come just because it’s what’s on my mind right now, but Birdman. I read articles on The Dissolve like, daily, and I really trust their reviews and editorial pieces— and they haaaaaaated Birdman. I think the phrase they used to describe the director was “pretentious fraud”. So I went into that movie expecting to agree with them, and to hate that movie, because I too hate pretension in movies and frauds in life.
Now I don’t know if I can say that I loved Birdman, but I did really enjoy it and I was very impressed by it. The performances are excellent, the technical ability is astounding, and honestly it’s a story I cared about. I did.
On the whole I don’t really see movies I don’t expect to like at least a little. This one I had very low expectations for, but was curious enough about to check it out. Turns out it was worth it.
17. What’s a show you loved at first but ended up disliking by the end?
This is tough, because a lot of shows I have loved tend to get cancelled before they can get bad. And it’s rare for me to quit on a show before it ends and it’s rare for me to actively dislike a show I once held affection for. That being said, these days, I have to say I’m pretty over Supernatural. I don’t enjoy watching it any more, and have basically let it slide off my watching schedule. I don’t know if I can say that I “dislike” it now, but I don’t enjoy it.
Also— Sherlock. No further explanation necessary. I do straight up dislike that show now. I’ll continue to watch it, out of morbid curiosity and in hopes that it may yet return to the soaring heights of it’s first episode, but doubt I will ever truly feel good about that show ever again.
