the worst thing is that the only other Authority Figure here just announced during lunch that he would be leaving at 2 and wouldn’t be coming back for the day, and one of the other interns asked him “what’s stopping us from leaving early as well then?” and he just answered “.........well nothing” i’m?????? dfdsdfasdgf

What often helps me when writing academic stuff is literally draw out my structure on an empty piece of paper - rather than trying to figure out behind my computer.

Yeah! I always start just babbling whatever’s at the top of my head, and as I ramble, it takes shape. I’m like, whoa this is perfect, and I know which references, quotes, other evidence I actually need to use versus all the bajillion that I’ve read. Then I go back and rewrite and kick tons of ass with my data. It’s great. BUT... Ugh, stupid archival stuff. I’ve worked with oral histories before, but that was pretty easy. This is just ridiculous. If it were an actual academic paper it would be easier, because length is less of an issue. But this is a Tumblr post, and I want to keep it under 3K wds. Which is a very good exercise in economy and, as my advisor used to say describing my writing, being “pithy”. I guess that’s a good thing? IDK. I always believe, the fewer words, the better the essay.
