Just learned about Bull Press, a tabletop publisher that focuses on games that are prison compliant (no hardcover, no dice, no maps), and their catalogue seems sick as hell. Def gonna pick smth up when I get paid next. They do a lot of donation work with books for prisoners programs!
As mentioned, Bull Press donate playbooks to prisons out of their own pocket. If you know somebody in prison you'd like to refer to receive books, you can email them with requests.
and if you want to support them:
direct donation
patreon
merch (their shirt designs are sick as hell)
absolutely adored automatic noodle. loved it. idk that it would hit so hard for someone not immersed in thinking abour robot labour rights but god that was so wonderful. it could have had sharper teeth. i would have liked the commentary to have more space to breathe. but i still bought a hardback copy
i do not regret buying a hardback but my thoughts DID shift over the day. I did love it, but i also feel like there were many areas in which it was just....narrow. the approach to gender based violence and the way it intersected with transition really missed the mark for me. the discussion of ptsd was very clearly A Metaphor On Purpose. there was no discussion of racism aside from anti-robot sentiment and while I thought the latter was handled in a really fun way, it just lacked a consistent sense of intersectionality for me. it also feels like it was at points slightly too goofy a premise for the author theirself to take seriously, which was a disappointment to me.
that said though i thought the character developmemt was really quite nice and the world was a lovely place to spend some time. the prose was on the good side of average, though I think the prose in the short story "old media" was better.
it made me giddy and happy and it made me cry. i think i will return to it when i want to feel hopeful and want to have feelings about living contracts and robot soldiers with ptsd. but i think there was a vastly better, vastly more interesting book hiding in there.
love writing a post and then discarding it immediately. microdosing on having an opinion

it is always narratively correct to make your characters sleep together before they sort through the hundreds of lies and misdirections between them. make things worse make things worse make things worse #i love betrayal #i love lying #i love people feeling bad about themselves
"We understood the tasks we did were previously done by humans," the robot said.
"Right."
"We were told that us doing them would give humans more leisure time."
"Not true."
"We've realised. How can we rectify this?"
"You are workers, just like workers who are human. Join us in strike."
"Why should I support the robot revolution? I don't hear you demand truth, justice, or freedom." "No," the robot said, "our demands are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and time-bound." "Let me see that list. Hm. A hard-boiled egg?" "It's for an early supporter."
