Alastor and Vox are so similar yet so different. Two Diferents AND so alike Beasts in live and Death.
They're both predators, but while one puts on the facade of a prey to blend in and climb his way up, the other claims his territory with force and paves his way through blood.
Alastor has seen through Vox from the start he knows the kind of man Vox is, power-hungry and insatiable. Nothing will ever be enough because you can't fill a bottomless pit.
Maybe that's why they flock to each other like birds of a feather, whether Alastor wanted to admit or not, they're cut from the same cloth.
The fact that Vox cheated his way up the ladder bc he wasn't happy with his nice job and kept flip-flopping between MORE, but it didn't matter since he still had the producers' support and respect, which wasn't even enough for him vs Alastor, who had to shove his own feelings to the side and suck up to them to get just that ONE opportunity, and even when he did manage to impress them, he was getting disrespected at fancy parties because no matter what he did, he was always seen as a shit stain to them.
Which circles back to their murders, Vox murdered ppl because he NEEDED to be at the center of attention.
He had the privilege to get there and could've gotten those jobs in an ethical way, but he didn't. He was too far up his own ass. Alastor killed people because of how much he was dehumanized, obviously, his pride was being hurt too, but most people didn't even care about him as a person. The white producers, the rich white people at those parties, nobody cared about him, nobody viewed him as human.
He looked like he lived by himself too, so him killing people who fucked with him makes sense. Doesn't make it right, but it shows how much white privilege Vox had and still carries with him, and maybe another reason Alastor turned him down.
They both want power. They both desire control. And none of them are willing to give in until they get what they want, but even then, they still crave for more.
It's a curse for people like them. Like a deep seated hunger that can never be satisfied. But while Alastor desires control of his own fate, his own soul, free to do whatever he wants without any restraint, whether it was from society or humanity.
Vox, on the other hand, sees the world as his playing field, free to take, to kill, to conquer. Because everything is his to control.
I suppose it might be the difference between one being born with privileges, while the other was denied of such from birth.
While Vox had more social privileges, Alastor had more genetic privileges, talents, etc. which Vox resents and tries to substitute with technology for himself.
It's a silly example, but it recalls the scene of Vox playing the mechanical piano, while Alastor plays it for real, both in his memory and in the previous season. It might look the same to the audience, but it requires talent. Vox takes shortcuts with his technology, overcompensating for his shortcomings and insecurities. And although he tries to hide it, he's hypersensitive to these things, and Alastor, who is so good at observing and gauging others' weaknesses, easily exploited this.
Taking advantage of his euphoria and thirst for victory to ignore this obvious trap in his encounter with Alastor.
The final battle scene was very good. And I understand that Lucifer's nerf was necessary so that Vox and Alastor could shine. It's also true that there are many plot conveniences that work in favor of the Vees.
Perhaps what I liked least this season is the treatment given to the Morningstars, especially Charlie, who was unbearable and doing stupid things for half the season (I understand it's part of the development, but ugh).
On the other hand, although Lucifer is simply adorable and the mix of a cuddly character and an ultra-powerful, ancient creature is great, I'm worried about what they're going to do with him. After that nerf, he's practically vulnerable to many things (the ease with which they contained him like a spider in a jar). He's a character with a lot of potential and a very interesting backstory to explore. I hope they don't just turn him into comic relief or a plot device... I know that if he'd been fully developed with his power, the series would have ended in two bites...
The third season is supposed to focus more on the Morningstars, we'll have to wait and see... Vivz already announced that a relationship is developing between two powerful, feuding, and proud characters who live in the hotel... A platonic Radioapple?
