I should probably stop lurking here and start posting again. This, if you don't know or have forgotten, is Matt Maxwell speaking. I mostly write, though I do design/art as well. My current long-running project is Hazeland, a book series set in an 80s Los Angeles that's becoming something much, much stranger and weirder. Which is saying something, if you've spent any time in the actual LA of the 80s.
The latest book is called My Gifts Are Hungry, about a girl named Grace who runs away from home to go to the coolest club in LA, The Last Prayer. Maybe to meet the fabled Queen of No Tomorrows and have an adventure to tell her friends about when she gets back home.
Only she ends up staying at one of those weird old houses up in the hills, former home to movie stars and bootleggers and money who'd run west and had nowhere else to go. She also learns that the house has a mind of its own, that it's been waiting for someone like Grace for a long, long time. It has gifts to give.
And it expects gifts in return.
The book (which is done, but for another edit round) goes to Kickstarter on May 1. You can cruise over here to sign up to be notified when the campaign goes live. There's some interesting bonus items up for backers as well (custom fiction, being written into one of the books, the insane grill tier).
You've never read any of the books? That's fine. This one's a good place to start. Or you could go ahead and dive in to all four books. That's a reward tier. All signed custom to you.

Not all houses are haunted by the dead. New Hazeland for 2026.
See you there! (And I'll try to be more active here.)
