      Despite what some might think, Link really is a deeply lonely person. You might not guess that from how he holds himself and how he acts, but he has spent quite a lot of time alone. As a child, he had no fairy, and his only friend was Saria –– and she wasn't always there for him. She had other friends, of course, and her own life to lead, and thus couldn't spend all of her time with him. That meant that for the long hours where she was gone, he had to find some other way to occupy himself –– alone.

      Even now, seven years later, he is still lonely. He has to travel alone, and that, accompanied with the haunting thought that he's missing seven years that everyone else has, it blends together into a certain sense of loss and melancholy. However, he does his best to fight off things like that: if he's pitying himself, how can he fight to save others?

      And so, he smiles. He always smiles, because he has to. If he stops, if he lets the sadness, the loneliness, win, then there's no way that he can be the Hero that everyone needs. He's not just smiling for them, though, he's not just being brave and courageous for them; he's also doing it for himself. He knows that no one can save him from his own thoughts, and so he fights and fights and fights. 

      However, he is still such a deeply lonely person, craving some kind of affection and contact; what he wants is just someone who can stay with him and be his friend.

       Link gets along quite well with children, honestly, for the sole reason that he himself is still quite childlike at his very core. He might act more mature (most times) as he was forced to age mentally very quickly in order to survive, but still, deep down at the very center of who he is, Link is still just a child who was forced to grow up too fast. When he's around kids, this side tends to come out more -- simply because he can connect with them in a way that he can't with other people. He's allowed to be himself around them, because he doesn't have to pretend to be some great hero or anything like that.

On manipulating him. 

      The thing with Sheik is that it's actually not that difficult to manipulate him if you're close to him. Once he's opened up to you, let you into his heart and mind, you could quite easily control him and he would let you. He's so very desperate for someone to treat him like a person and he doesn't want to lose those that do, so he would allow them to manipulate him. He would think that he has to in order to keep them around -- he's so very scared of being alone and losing the people who treat him as if he's something more than a pawn. 

He would also lie to himself, say that they weren't just using him. While he is a human lie detector, essentially, he still can lie to himself and make himself believe those falsehoods. He would feed himself those lies so very often that they would become true to him, thus making it easier for the person in question to continue using him. Really, it's quite sad, but that's how desperate he is for human affection. He wants to matter to someone, so really, it is quite plausible for him to do something like this.

Headcanon: Threats

It's not exactly Sheik's style to outright threaten someone. He doesn't find it necessary to put on a show of toughness like that -- he finds that the people who use threats the most are generally quite weak, and thus are trying to intimidate people. They are generally unable to follow through on the threats, anyway.

The only time that Sheik will outright threaten someone is when he's quite furious, and even then it's more of a promise than anything. He might hint at threatening someone sometimes, but he'll never outright say it unless he is quite enraged, or teasing someone.

{ ☾ — Headcanon; 051 }

As some of you might have noticed, Sheik rarely, if ever, says 'My name is Sheik' when introducing himself. Instead, he will say something more along the lines of 'I am called Sheik'. Some might think that this is just a sign of formality or whatnot, but in reality, there is a deeper logic behind it than that, though such a thing might play a part. 

Sheik's name is, in fact, not actually Sheik. This is just a name that he took on when he began his training around the age of six or seven. His name before this was something else -- Vidhi, actually, meaning 'destined' or 'fated' in his mother-tongue. 

The changing of his name, done by all Sheikah warriors, was symbolic in many ways -- it signified the fact that he had left behind his old life and had started a new one. However, as some of you might have noticed, his name is now, quite literally, just the first part of his race's name. 'Sheik'. This name was chosen for him as a sign, almost, meaning that he is destined to be just a shadow of someone, and is no longer his own person. It is a rather sad manner of logic; he is no longer a person, really, just a shadow... At least, that was what it was supposed to mean.

Perhaps something like this contributes to his outlook on himself, where he doesn't see himself as a person, really, rather thinking of himself as just a pawn, a puppet, meant to follow orders.

Headcanon word: Guilt?

“Ghirahim doesn’t feel guilt very often, if ever. He has no conscience to speak of, and so could brutally torture/kill someone and not think twice about it. Rather, he would most likely enjoy it quite a bit, though he might think it a shame to break his ‘toy’ so quickly.”
