“ you finish crying and stand up and come back ten times harder. ”

Howard’s words seemed to echo in Peggy’s head and yet all it seemed to do was feed that small piece of her that was being driven by rage, anger, and sadness.
Peggy’s eyes were glued to the wall, just past Howard’s head to the right where there was a stain on the wall, a stain that happened to be more interesting than what Stark had to say, or maybe because the part of her that was listening knew he was right.
“Our rain-check was for tonight, I don’t need to be crying over anything” she spoke sharply.
“ no, you ARE strong. ”

The agent was perched at the edge of her bed, head hung and shoulders hunched. It had been a year, a year to this day and Peggy thought she would be fine, but the deaths were stacking up against her and this anniversary had come to soon.
“I miss him and I don’t think anything will fill that void” the agent spoke up into the silence that had settled. “It feels wrong that we get to live without him here” Peggy spoke, finally confessing what was making her heart so heavy.
“I can’t do this Howard” her head turning to stare at her friend.
“You are strong, you can, Pegs” the scientist tried to confide.
“I’m not strong-” she started to speak before being cut off.
“ no, you ARE strong. ” Howard spoke, giving the agent no other option but to smile sadly at him, thankful he had her back even on the darkest of days.
❛on a scale of one to ten… how illegal do you think doing this is?❜
Peggy turned to glare at the older man, ‘how illegal’? What did Howard think he was playing at, hm? The brunette rolled her eyes, slouching back in her chair.
“Howard, this is no joking matter, if we are caught we’ll be charged with treason, God knows why I even agreed to aid you” Peggy muttered, glancing to the files in Howard’s lap.
The files she had abused her power as a SSR agent to obtain, files that contained secrets that were being used against the Russians in a space race, and despite all this Howard wanted to swap notes with someone from beyond the iron curtain, like a high schooler trying to get top marks at the science fair.
They were committing treason, and here Howard Stark was, question the legality of it all, far to late in the game to make any difference.
