alsooooooooo really important for my portrayal of damon. I do not think of him as numb or unstable ( like the show made him out to be ) . he does have anger in him but it's rather a silent rage he expresses . he loves his wine but he hates alcoholics ( because of his father ) and he really hates anything that reminds him of how giuseppe failed stefan and him . this includes alcohol so no he doesn't escape to alcohol whenever something doesn't work out. MY DAMON IS A CONTROL FREAK . all the games he plays , the way he challenges people . he let's it play out in his head a thousand times before he takes action . he feels everything but he is NARCISSTIC . everything he does is to favour himself . only stefan is the exception but this he will not admit . it only is obvious when stefan is in danger and he has to act . even the people he keeps in his life . they have remained there because they have something to offer . he is capable of feeling but he mostly doesn't care about others . if he does develop trust and care towards someone else - he will still look out for himself the most BUT he will show empathy in key moments . help them without asking something in return ( which is mostly the case with him ) . he will however not easily admit he cares , due to the risk of losing it . this man is not over the loss of his mother . he hasn't processed it . so any relationship he has is overshadowered by the grieving emotions . it's always there . him not expressing his feelings , is him protecting himself in case the person leaves / disappears / dies . in his brain - as long as he didn't word his care it is NOT REAL . therefore not important .
