"I thank you for assisting me today, underclassman." Its not that Juumonji is someone who is strict with everyone, but only with himself. Sure he can lighten up, but his training and pedigree prevents him from making friends with anyone.
The curses were all squashed and dead and he didn't even leave a single one alive for the other to do anything, so the thanks was a bit ...not needed. But he has been told he needed to appear approachable.
