mim lives for game shows like jeopardy, family feud, and wheel of fortune. she sits down with popcorn and a blanket and usually solves everything before the contestants do. she gets distressed whenever she’s wrong and will proceed to pout or scowl for the next ten minutes.

she’s also weirdly into wrestling?? like that’s her guilty pleasure. watching big dudes throw down other big dudes.

some mim updates following her second arc, if you have any interest in interacting with her during this time!

she is briefly hospitalized following a concussion after her place of work blows up

her new job is in a candy store

she’s sometimes seen in district x, the mutant part of new york city

occasionally goes out late at night for no reason except her head won’t turn off and she has a lack of concern for her well being

AU where mim goes to xavier’s and grows up with friends and not feeling isolated and alone. she’s still shy and gets stressed out in public, but her depressive symptoms are significantly lessened and she feels more confident in herself overall. most of her depression presents itself as tiredness and a lack of motivation, rather than full blown self hate and existential struggles.

she ends up being a nicer, less defensive person who doesn’t rely on passive aggressive tactics and doesn’t let everyone walk all over her. she’s less afraid to do the right thing.

she’s also full of snark and judgmental stares.

also, she’s not afraid to make eye contact for than .5 seconds.

Mim had cochlear implants up until her mutant ability presented itself. About a year or two after, her parents had them removed in order to gauge her abilities better. She hasn’t had them sense and has no interest in receiving them again.

i did some writing with @nobullseye and got to learn/develop so much little stuff about mim??

mim tries so hard to be understanding and like, give everything a reason. as much of a pessimist as she is, she also doesn’t want to assume the worst case scenario. if someone does something awful, she’ll be super mad about it, sure - but she also wants to think there was a reason for it. it wasn’t just because. and i think she tries to avoid getting mad, too by assuming there’s a reason for everything.

going with that, mim also tends to be very, very withdrawn about her emotions. it’s very hard for her to admit to being happy or upset about something. she usually defaults into “it’s fine” and just bites back everything else. she doesn’t like to appear emotional in any form. i think she’s afraid if she’s happy, it’ll be taken away, so it’s easier to protect herself by restraining such feelings. even in positive situations, it’s hard for her to admit to it. and she has a hard time like, telling people they make her happy or she enjoys their company.

mim also will not ask questions she doesn’t want answers to. i answered a thing a while ago that had me pick between “white lies” or “hard truths” and i wasn’t really sure which mim prefers. to an extent, she prefers white lies because she doesn’t want to deal with anything. but she also values trust and would rather just be told the truth. no matter how difficult it is to swallow.

so it results in her avoiding questions or situations she just. doesn’t want to know about. it’s basically a willful ignorance.

mim is very smart, though, and she can piece together a lot with very little. 

honestly, she’s such a rational sort of person that she struggles so much with emotions and responding to them. and if something doesn’t make sense, she... basically shuts it away and decides to not deal with it. alternately, she might also obsess over it until she has figured it out.

except for lol. in cases where you would type lol mim will type “That’s funny.”

— basics

▸ is your muse tall/short/average? slightly above average at 5′6.

▸ are they okay with their height? she never considers her height until confronted with people with vast height differences, at which point mim feels she is either too tall or too short. she hates being either and just wants to be average.

▸ what’s their hair like? about to her upper back, wavy at the ends. it’s dark brown with a subtle red tint. annoyingly thick. when she’s around the house, it’s usually pulled up into a messy bun or ponytail. in public, it’s left down or in a braid. 

▸ do they spend a lot of time on their hair/with their grooming? she does the bare minimum to keep her hair clean and not gross. she washes it about every other day and usually doesn’t style it anymore than a quick bun. the most elaborate thing she’s capable of doing is a french braid.

▸ does your muse care about their appearance? mim’s concern varies from day to day. at home, by  herself, she honestly can’t be bothered to give a damn and pretty much lives with messy hair and in sweats. around people, though, she’s very self conscious and tries to present herself as neatly as possible. while she doesn’t wear much makeup, she still wears some - mostly concealer, lipstick, and mascara.

she still has her days where she goes into public dressed in an old t-shirt and a pair of sweatpants and flipflops because she just can’t.

▸ does your muse care about what others think about them? oh god so much. she wants everyone to like her all the time and it is exhausting as a certain comedian might say. mim expects everyone hates her or is thinking badly about her at any given moment and gets very stressed out when people do pay attention to her. mim’s dream isn’t to be liked but to be unnoticed. if she can get in and out of a place without anyone remembering she was there, she’s happy.

▸ what are some of your muse’s bad habits? refusing to deal with her problems. picking at the skin on her lips. not good at cleaning up after herself. prefers passive aggressive tactics to actual communication. plays victim a lot. can’t make eye contact if you paid her. will talk obsessively about things if u let her. tends to forget other people have problems until they slap her in the face. zones out and hyperfocuses.

▸ has your muse lost anyone close to them? how has it affected them? barney is the first person close to her she loses which is why it hits her so hard?? this is the first time it occurs to her that people like, die and what that means. it has a huge negative impact on her. it makes her afraid to get close to others for a bit and causes her to withdraw further into herself in an effort to deal with her problems by not dealing with them. she gets more depressed and gradually loses the ability to care about even her basic safety.

▸ what are some fond memories your muse has? reading picture books with her brother. going on a car ride to northern new york with her family. the first time her mother hung a picture she drew on the fridge. falling asleep in her dad’s arms as a child. 

▸ is it easy for your muse to kill? oh boy. so mim would have such a hard time killing anyone unless she herself was in immediate danger. and even then, it’d happen because she was so panicked and not thinking. 

▸ what’s it like when your muse breaks down? most of the time when mim breaks down, it’s a very quiet thing. there’s no crying or screaming. she just sort of curls into herself and stops moving and barely breathes. depending on the situation, she might start hyperventilating. she won’t respond to anything outside of trying even harder to disappear. in the long term sense of breaking down, mim won’t leave her bed for anything more than using the bathroom or maybe getting a glass of water. she’ll reread the same page in a book for hours, unable to remember what she’s just read.

▸ is your muse capable of trusting someone with their life? i don’t think mim trusts anyone to that degree, and it’s not so much a lack of trust but rather a lack of self worth? she doesn’t think anyone would want to protect her life, and therefore they wouldn’t. at the same time. mim would like... right now she’d throw someone else’s life away to save her own. so it’s a difficult thing all around.

▸ what’s your muse like when they’re in love? she’s like weird and cuddly and soft and just wants to be close to u all the time and she actually makes eye contact and likes looking at your face. she’s a lot more considerate of things and will check in on you a lot and make sure you’re doing okay and she just sends little messages throughout the door as reminders she loves u.
